Vision and detox

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem in detox.
I was on a large amount of opiates.
When I was in detox my pupils were so dilated it looked like I was on acid, my vision was way off. I seemed to be the only one having this problem.
From the time I woke up to the time I went to sleep I couldn't read or see up close.
I thought I would need glasses but about 45 days later
my eyes started to adjust back to normal, has anyone else every experience this during detox?
Thank you for all of the people on this website, everyone is so kind:)
Warm Wished to all,
Jackie

I have had that problem also.  Mine was not very bad but I could not focus up close on things.  My eyes were always dialated when I was high on opiates.  Were your eyes the same or did you non notice?  My husband could always tell.  Now I am trying to get off Ultram and while on it I dont have the eye thing or the cotton mouth like with opiates.  Good luck in your recovery and Hi to everyone.  Cindi even though you are  is writing while on vaca I feel Like I miss you> Cin are you a big talker  LOL!! I picture you as a big talker and queston asker HA HA!! Hope you are having fun you sound like you deserve it!

I'm sorry to but in on your thread but I've been trying to post everyday for two weeks and it always says the forum is full. My problem is that I've been taking Oxycontin 80mg twice a day for almost a year for a herniated l-5 S-1 disc which did damage to my sciatic nerve. I have a lot of pain with sever burning sensations in my left hip and leg and my back. I've been to a pain clinic and had steroid injections in my spine to help with the pain (not something I want to do on a regular basis, man you talk about pain) they would last for about two weeks and then they would wear off and nothing. Then my MD started talking about me going back to work, which requires a lot of heavy lifting and Workman's comp says they won't cover me if I go back to work at my old job and have another injury. The major problem is he wants to stop my Oxycontin cold turkey. I've had half a dozen MD's and three or four pharmacists to DO NOT stop taking this medication all at once, that it could be dangerous. He says not to worry I won't have any withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms. Well my last visit he stopped my Oxycontin and gave me some Celebrex, Zanaflex for muscle cramps, Amitripyline(Elavil), and some 1 mg Ativans. That was four days ago and I'm in withdrawl (withdrawal) hell. Nausea, the runs, muscle spasms from hell, my legs and arms draw up into knots and I start kicking with my legs, one minute I'm freezing the next I'm burning up. My workman's compensation case worker says they've had a bunch of complaints about this MD and they are taking him an front of the medical board to try and take his license. I'm also thinking of getting a lawyer and suing for malpractice. I've tried detox centers but all they do where I live is give you something for the runs and muscle cramps. The only Methadone clinic is an outpatient clinic that I have to drive to everyday, 80 miles one way, and pay $12 for a single dose of methadone. I'm at the end of my rope and don't know what to do. I'm on day four of my WD hell and don't know if I can stand this **** much longer. I can't believe my MD did this to me with me begging him to taper me off the Oxycontin instead of just stopping it. I've never abused my meds, never asked for a refil before I was supposed to. He has drug tested me three times and everything was fine. I just don't understand why he doing this to me????? Right now I'm looking for a new MD. Againg I'd like to say I'm sorry for jumping in on this thread butI just HAD to vent to somebody. I hope that dirty SOB loses his license to practice medicine in this state. Thanks guys for letting me rant and rave a little. God Bless us all.

Welcome to the forum. I just read your post and I can relate to your physical problem. I also had blown L-5 S-1 disks. Went through the sciatica misery till my foot and leg ceased to function. All the shots to the back didn't work and it wasn't till I went to a Neuro surgeon and they did an MRI to isolate the damage that I elected to have surgery to repair and remove the disks. It's been 4 years now and besides being an addict that had to stop the opiate intake I can assure you my leg works fine now and I only experience sciatica sporatically but NOT like before. Once I kicked the "Dragon" I realized that my back and leg didn't hurt as much as I thought. I just LOVED the oxy's and the Somas so much that every time I'd get up in the morning I'd be hurting and I would blame the injury and take more and more drugs. I urge you to seek out a professional  in the right field you should not be told to Cold Turkey just like that with no solving of the injury. AND I STRONGLY urge you to NOT do heavy lifting unless you've had an MRI and been cleared for heavy duty work. You could herniate a disk and be in worse shape  that may not be repairable.God Bless you and I will pray that you get the attention that you deserve in a hurry.

find a pain specialist and find one fast. coming off that much oxy
is going to be very hard (as I'm sure you know!)!!
then get a neuro-surgeon with a good reputation.the neuro-surgeon
will set you up with a bank of test such as a myogram and MRI.
don't waste any more of your time with the old croaker you've had
for a doc (unless it's a malpractice suit). alsom when you sever
your relationship with this ******* m.d. get a copy of all your
medical records. you will have to sign a release form. this will save your lawyer the trouble and you some money. medicine is one
of the few carreers a person can be an uter failure at and still
make a very good income!
good luck

you've either got an ******* for an MD or he's under investigation for over-writing and won't tell you. Why not consult a pain specialist? They're expected to use the strong stuff. Try to get on methadone for the pain. It's an excellent pain killer and will get you off the oxy pretty much painlessly. I think you need another doctor, fast.

Use Yahoo and look under "pain specialist". You should find a ton of them listed.

GypsyStevi -- I have had transient vision problems when taking Donnatal & some other meds -- anything "anticholinergic" can have effects, even eye drops! (I couldn't begin to tell you what anticholinergic means -- Cindi?) Opiates cause the pupils to constrict, so you might have had a "rebound effect" in detox. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about. If you get periodic eye exams, why not go ahead & have one in case you need to put your mind at rest?
Newton -- Welcome to the forum. I can't add anything to the excellent advice you've already gotten, except to say remember we're all here to offer support & lend an ear. I wish you good luck in getting this quickly resolved, and feel sad for the hell you've needlessly been put through. I'll keep you in my thoughts & prayers.
JBear -- Bless your heart!!! I'm tryly glad that something I've said has helped you, and sincerely thank you for sharing that. Thoughts like that are never wasted on any one of us!
And good luck w/the Ultram. I know it's a funny drug, seemingly affecting everyone differently. Of course I'll be glad to share my tales of woe with you anytime! :)
Bless all of you & all of the great folks on this forum!

Has anyone heard or gotten an e-mail from Jenny? I can't get a response from her and I'm getting concerned. She was not doing well Saturday night, all the problems with her husband. I'm praying she's ok both emotionally and mentally. I'm hoping she's taking a break and finding out what she needs to do for her situation. Jenny if you are watching the forum let us know what's up. We miss you girlie, and we all love you and are here for you.....Susan

Yes,  anticholinergic blocking agents "block" the action of cholinergic blockers..it has to do with the parasympathetic nervous sysem...without getting into alot of detail,,,(cause I'm going to lunch with Brighty:) certain drug classifications are anticholinergic agents such as some antidepressants called Tricyclics) the effects of the anticholinergics do cause dry mouth, blurred vision,,pupil constriction  etc....hope this helps....and yes I am very concerned about Jenny also  I did recieve e-mail but not since saturday......if anyone hears from her please post it for us   thanks    lov to all  cin

I dig your handle.......LOL  Have you ever posted here before??  Meaning a post, not a question for the doctor?  We love it here, and have kindled the best of relationships ever, here in cyber space.  I couldn't think of leaving....  Most of us, just post our questions to one another.  It's like having a counselor on duty, at your disposal, 24/7.  There is always someone here, w/ probably more experience than the doc!!  This forum gets a four star rating from me, and it's priceless.  Why don't you give us a chance.... you'll probably never leave. LOL
Just curious???  What are you having problems w/???  I take Oxycontin....I noticed you listed this above.  Give us a few questions, and we'll give it our best shot.  Of  course, if your having some life or death issues, always seek this advice of a qualified,> in the flesh < physician.  Take care
Angelica ****
