heroin addiction

I myself am not an addict but a friend of mine is.  He has been taking heroin the last 10 years now (he is 29 years old).  I've known him since last May so I can't say I am an expert on the issue.

Lately I have noticed that he has increased his dose (he smokes it) up to even 10gr in just 24 hours!  I don't know how he did that.

Since this thing started he has been violent.

The thing goes like that:
We sit and talk while he takes the drug and everything is OK and in just a moment, in just a sec, he completely transforms, starts shouting, tries to hit me etc etc etc
The weird thing is that he gets mad at things that don't exist.  Like making up stories.  Usually those stories are around negative feelings or fear of abandonment from my side.

I want to ask:  is it heroin that causes this sudden change in his behavior or it might be something else?

i know this is an old post but i just HAVE TO comment on it...JOHNNY STOP GIVING MISGUIDED INFORMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES heroin does cause that kind of stuff why the hell would you say it doesnt??! Look it up i know you think u know it all BUT U DONT and for 48 years old your pretty damb clueless...no one else will say anything but i will U SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THIS FORUM!! All this false info you give out all this **** you tell people is FUCKEN unbelievable! GET A CLUE!!!!

I am not taking any drugs.  I just want to do anything to help him and this is why I let myself go through such things.  I've tried all my best but nothing worked at the end.  And as I said this thing gets worse day after day.

jen be careful,he sounds like a nutter,heroin is not known to cause this type of behaviour,mental illness is.

Never happened to me but maybe to someone else,,my question is why are you with him when he does dope,,its violent,verbally obusive,physical,illegal and are you smoking to?
