One year clean from opiates

Hello All -
I rarely ever think of this place or drugs anymore, but nevertheless, wanted to drop by on my one year anniversary and check in with everyone. Was doing about 160mg of oxy a day for a few years on and off (obviously didn't start at that much, but that was the final intake). I have completely changed my life around, have become successful without the drugs, and have forged so many new relationships. I honestly feel like I would be dead today if it were not for this place! I used my own method to get off, it actually looks like a lot of people have been doing it, which I think is awesome. Protocol for unassisted opiate withdrawal, posted in the health pages.

Happy V-day all! You can do it, you have no choice but to quit, it will eventually destroy you if you don't!

Goodluck :)

Hi Everyone

How one feels after a year of sobriety is largely dependent upon the person and other unquantifiable factors. However, I will say that speaking from my own experience, and from the wisdom of others who have went through similar trials, that you should have no residual effects from the addiction (although many will argue psychological effects). That being said, its important to really understand what a normal state of being is. Having spent so much time altering your state of reality, you tend to forget (as previously mentioned) what normal is. Remember, life can be awesome, and it can really suck too, that's just how it is. Being on drugs keeps you in relatively stable condition, obviously being trashed 24\7 tends to let absolutely nothing bother you ;)

I firmly believe that in order to succeed and have no long term \ permanent effects, you HAVE to really look deep into yourself and be completely honest about who you are, where you are going, and most importantly WHY you are using drugs. Once you have quit doing drugs and gotten past the psychical and mental part, you will still have occasional cravings unless (in my opinion) you know the reason(s) why you became addicted.

Addiction is a crazy thing, and a really odd fight if you think about it. You are literally fighting yourself, a perfect evil clone. Its your brain VS your brain all the way. You have to stay one step ahead of it, yet it knows your every move. To take away its power, you have to take away what fuels it. Only then can your rational good side prevail.

So whether you use them because you're depressed, or you think they make you better at life, or you just like to get high, you MUST identify and correct that problem. Only then will you be completely side effect free in the long run.

The truth is, withdrawal is really hard, but its minor in the grand scheme of things. You will get better and better until one day without even realizing it, you rarely even think about drugs anymore except to reflect back on a valuable lesson learned. Use this experience to gain power and become a better person and it will not have been for nothing.

Goodluck to all! Ill stop by every once in a while, I owe it to you for being there for me when I needed you. Never give up fighting, know your enemy, you are NOT powerless, you are powerful!

I just wanted to see how one feels after a year of sobriety. How's your physical / mental condition? Any residuals from the addiction? Any depression or anxiety?
