What can I do for tooth pain?

Well, so I need a root canal but nothing can be done until the 25th.  Last night and today I have been in more pain than when this first started and I have been on antibiotics for 4 days now.  I have tried heat, ice, advil, I just don't know what to do.  Does anyone have any suggestions, I can't handle this?

Lol.  Thank actually when my husband got up this morning, I asked him if he would pull my tooth out with some pliers.  I said to him, wait and let me get really drunk first.  He won't though and I am a ***** so there is no way that I will do it to myself. Haha.  Anyway I should feel better tomorrow according to the pharmacist with the stonger antibiotic that I am on.

Oh I'm sorry. I really hope the stronger antibiotic helps. Tooth pain is the absolute worst. I really sympathize with you. Stay strong but if it doesn't help I would definitely call him immediately. Good luck!!

I live in a small town, I don't know where there is an emergency dental clinic.  I just went back to the dentist and he put me on a stronger antibiotic, so hopefully that will help.  Since I have been taking Amoxicillian since Tuesday with no relief.  The pharmacist told me that I should be feeling better by tomorrow.  I guess I will find out.  Thanks everyone for the input.

I think like you said maybe stronger antibiotics. I know how painful it is because that is how my addiction started. I had a root canal that got infected and then I needed my gum cut open and bone and infected tissue removed. I would not wait until the 25th. Dont let it get too bad. I would go to an emergency dental clinic.

can you get the dentist to just opnn it up to let infecion and pressure start to drain.. He does not have to do the ientire root canal.. He can open it up and seal it with light bond in probally 30 mins.. I had this done once.. get you out of pain 100%

HEY hon, dont beat yourself up it starts healing soon just dont over do the meds and chunk them when you are well.  I have faith in you YOU CAN DO THIS!  I am not sure that I wouldnt take something if I had a toothache I hate dentists and a toothache to me is the worst pain it is an acute pain not a chronic one.

I'm also a proponent of the 800 mg of ibuprofen (I take four 200's).  You've got to take it every 4-6 hours and it often takes the first two doses to "kick in".  There are some great o-t-c oral analgesic sprays and topical things to use, check with your pharmacist.  Also, that antibiotic may need time to kick in as well, and when your body is kickin' something, you often have more pain from the dead debris inflamming the tissue.  Dead bacteria and such.  You could probably call the dentist as well for a recommendation for what would help you best.

Thanks I am going to the dentist and get a stronger antibiotic.  While I wait for that to take effect, I will try some of your remedies.  Thank you.

You are being responsible with the pain meds. and that is very smart, this has come up a lot lately and most agree that it is taken for pain and not being abused, it doesn't hurt your clean days.

I really, really relate to you right now....I broke a tooth last week, and have been walking around with this pain from the exposed nerv-ending. So finally yesterday I get the guts up enough to go to my dentist, really cuz i could'nt stand the pain any more. They had to surgically remove the damaged, shattered tooth. Now what??? I am an opiat addict, do I take the Vicodin? Do I try to deal with it with no pain meds???
well I really dont know if I did the right thing, but I took the Vicodin, and took some last night cuz the pain was unbarable. I just simply gave the bottle to some one that I trusted and told them that 1 maybe 2 a day should be good enough, and no matter what dont give me more. It is working so far, and for the little bit of pain that is still there I am taking excederen...

Well thats just what I did cuz a tooth ache suuuuuuucks...

Best of luck....CGR

I have heard the clove and the whiskey work.  If you have a hold in a tooth they now have stuff you can use as a temp filling to keep air out of it unti you can get help.  Good Luck I hope you feel better soon.

if you rub your hand with ice betweeb the thumb and finger for a bit...til it gets kinda numb, it should stop the pain...the hand on the side with the toothe ache.  i really am not cray it works...it interrupts the path the pain travels...the dentist told me to do it...i did and it worked...it is only a temporary solution
