What can I expect an NA meeting to be like

by sid3, Mar 15, 2009 09:14AM
It's been almost twenty years since I attended an meetings, when I did they were AA meetings and mostly people in their late forties and up. I'm just curious what I'll encounter when I go to my first NA meeting. I

I don't know either, I am thinking I might try to find one in my area and go if I can get away from the family long enough, my husband would have to agree with me on it too and I know he thinks that it' s just "over and done with" and I shouldn't need to do that.   Deep down I think it would be good to go and see others who have been there and done that.  Also the thought that I just may see others that I know personaly, and we are trying to run a business in our small town.  Small towns are the pitts when it comes to gossip and I have seen it first hand in the little Bunko groups and Gamm Phi's.  Perhaps I will go to a  larger town,  it's inconvient but I could.  Oh, well others will come along to tell us about the NA meetings soon and I will check back later.

N/A meetings haven't changed much over the years. plenty of coffee, uncomfortable chairs. you may end up having to do a reading, usually if there's one on the chair you pick. alot of times the people will all know each other. you will be welcome of course. if you are not clean, you are not supposed to speak as always. you can get good out of it.  war stories are discouraged. i wish you luck. if you keep going to regular meetings long enough to become a regular, they are much more enjoyable and you can get involved with the working side of it. just give it a chance. peace.    sway

in my area, each meeting is different, so there is really no typical meetings, make sure you goto several meetings before forming an opinion, i have been to several meetings this week, and all of them have been a little different, i have been attending meetings for a long time, i slacked off for a while, now i am going to atleast 2 a week, early in recovery i went to 90 meetings in 90 days, got a sponsor and a homegroup and worked the steps, the people i know with lasting recovery, not just abstinance do some type of program, i liked na because its free!!!

The fact that you are thinking of going back is a step in the right direction. I went to every group in my area before finding the right one. Hang in there!!
