Been clean about3&1/2months(lortabs).Also quit xanax too.Im VERY SICK w/severe bronchitis+bad flu.Went2DR.2day after trying OTC+prescribed tussin:Didnt help AT ALL.
This is the DR. Who knows I quit my pk's c/t.She said I need tussin w/codiene so after a talk she gave me antibiotics+the tussin w/codiene.She said if I didnt take these I will have pnemonia,she even said w/my symptoms she thinks if I waited anther36hours I would have probably been n the ER w/n36hours4 walking pnemonia(scary).
I have never taken codiene except the same I have now when I had broncitis a few years ago.Never abused it AT ALL.Im taking a little less than prescibed(as n Im supposed2take it every4hours but try2wait til6hours).
I have to take this+my antibiotics.I dont feel this is.a.relapse at all as Im only taking what the DR TOLD ME TOO+not even as much.BTW I GET NO BUZZ JUST A LITTLE SLEEPY.
Give me ur opinions please
ALSO AS SOON AS IM BETTER SHOULD I DUMP OUT THE REST OF THE TUSSIN or since its so expensive should I just keep it at my MIL HOME incase I get sick again this bad.

overopiates - that's why I never tell anyone on FB when I get pain meds...i see it all the time, someone will have surgery or an injury and post something like "headed home from the urgent care with some vicodin" and they get all sorts of responses like "man give me some of that" "crap what did u tell them so i can go tell them the same thing"
the sad part...? I don't even have any drug user friends...these are just normal people being @$$es! it's ridiculous.

Okay...I would increase fluid intake (water) based on what I know. Adequate fluid intake is essential to avoid dehydration especially if a fever is present. I myself doubt it would cause a problem for you because you're young,moving around,and coughing frequently. Water helps keep all those secretions from being so tenacious that it would be difficult to expectorate. But,Sweetie, you need to do what you're comfortable with. If you have any doubts about how you need to proceed, just check with your doctor. She,after your Mom, has your best interests in mind!

@doghound Just so u i already tried BOTH OTC/PRESCRIBED TUSSIN W/O CODIENE.Didnt help at all.I wish it did

Yes,of course,anytime...we all need a Mom!! I still have my hands full with Tram and she's always wanting money but I have plenty for you, too! Try not to worry...I hope you're in bed now;nice and cozy. These respiratory things are awful,huh?...
I'm sure if you follow the plan from your doctor, you'll improve and not have this turn into a nightmare for you as dog was describing..pneumonia can really get you weak.
Lots of rest,water,moving around! Then: cough and deep breathe 3x an hour or more, if you can!! Keep me in the loop. ;)

Thanx.Im sitting up constantly,im taking the meds as prescibed and ALL kinds of stuff is coming up.Im not sneesing/coughing much at all which is nice i guess thats the tussin doing that.I will b done w/antibiotics n6days but if im not feeling drastically better by friday ill go to the hospital.Thanx
Well the pharmacist told me there is an ingredient n it that DOES get it out.I have been coughing a lot+icky stuff keeps coming out so obviously it does).This woman(she is a nurse practitioner to my dr but I like her SO much+she really likes me so I have been seeing her my last3visits+my reg. DR usually comes n2say hi but SHE WAS ENCOURAGING about me quitting the lortabs+so proud HE was/IS STILL telling me NOT TO QUIT cause I will"always b n pain" etc.)U can read my other posts they explain what and why he said this even after I told him I was takin too many+addicted/not dependant.I trust her way more than him.

Trama, sit down. I just said that.. She's right..it's a cough suppresant and you need a cough expectorant, sooo keep coughing it up and drink!!

Hey, one thing to remember....if you truly are on the verge on pneumonia, you want to cough that stuff up, right? Codeine suppresses the cough. I'd maybe ask her again if she meant that you need to cough it out?

@Vicki.yes mom;) Im drinking lots of water thanks for the reminder.I also forgot about good old warm water+salt gargling.As for the thing about pnemonia+the codiene she said if I dont get better+get all the infection out(which is what the tussin w/codiene apparently does get all the flem n my chest out).BTW Vicki I really think ur great and like a mom to a lot of us.I called u mom cause my mom said the same thing about2hours ago.

Hi! I sure hope you feel better. If the doctor said to do that...you do that! I'm not sure if a lack of codeine is going to turn that into pneumonia as long as you have the antibiotics on board but the cough can really HURT so...that will feel better. Are you drinking lots of water to get all that junk moving around?? Hope so!! Get well!!
@tramahater:thanx so much for ur concern.I dont need2keep it at any1's house right now cause I need to take it through the night as well if I wake up but I will keep it@my MIL house after Im better.It cost$40+bucks+is good for a year so I will possibly need it or my MIL may+then she wont have2pay4hers(she gets exactly the same medicine when shes sick.)

IMO, I would take the antibiotics AND the tussin as your doctor prescribed it. I don't think this is always necessary, but you're really sick and you don't want to mess around with bronchitis, or what it might lead to. Stretching out your meds may just prolong your getting well. Knock it out ASAP! As for leaving the leftovers at your house, I agree with tramahater. Get well soon :)

HI, Just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I don't think its a relapse at all. But i understand the worry. Stick 2 what your doc tells you and finish all of what is prescribed, at least with the anti-biotics. Or you could end up sick again. And yes, when you don't need the tussen, dump it. Hope I helped. good luck, and get better. :)
