Will I get in trouble with the DEA if I fill a script for Methadone?

Hi,
      Does anyone know anything about Methadone?  One of my doctors wants to put me on it for chronic pain.
I've been on MS Contin for  six years. My question is, will my other doctors find out if I get the Methadone filled? My brother-in-law is a psych RN. and he mentioned that Methadone is highly controlled by the goverment. My sister used to have a few doctors, then a doctor put her on Methadone, within a few weeks every doctor she had gone to in the  last year got a letter that she was doctor shopping, which resulted in her getting fired from every doctor she had.
She was also taking MS Contin.
I just don't want to lose my two favorite MD's if I fill this.
Does anyone know what I should do?

you need to decide if you wanna start the methadone or not, once you do, thats all you need to take. I assume you already have more than one doctor or you would have ask the doctor that gave you the contin and meth, do you already have more than one doctor? if so thats dangerous not only cause of the trouble but moreso for your health..hell! pleanty of us have done it, but its not a ood thing to do...Good luck, Lee

let me reprhas what i said...lots of people have more than one doc...heart doctor, cancer doctor, pain mang, family doctor...but you should not have two doctors presciping two extremly strong narcotics without knowing about the other

hey welcome to the forum....well i was prescribed methadone for pain and was on it for
6 1/2 yrs...as for filling the scripts it is a controlled substance and when pharmaces
put it in the computer it will show up to all who inquire other pharmacies, ,dr if they
call the pharmacies exc....I never got fired by a doctor wile on it but I was open
and honest with all my dr about it...the often tell each other what they are prescribing
and unless your trying to hide it you shouldent have anny problems....second Im not
so shure id ever go on it again...it took me 8 1/2 mo of tapering off it to get clean
and to say the least it was extremely difficult to do so im not so shure if id trade one
vise for another and methadone is a real vise and many never get off it once put on it
so if I where you id find a different avenue to solve your pain problems..just my 2 cents...Gnarly

I agree with Gnarly I would try everything else known to man so before I took the methadone .Getting two high power narcotics from different doctors very well might set off alarm bells with the pharmacy . My state has a data base called SCRIPTS that is carefully monitoring every narcotic and controlled substance its in all of the pharmacy's at some point it will be threw out the US.I make sure with my doctor they all stay in contact with each other this was not done because of narcotics but because that way all of my doctors are aware of whats going on with me medically it helps if a problem comes up they have a better history .you have to agree to it but you can set it up with your doctors if you want to .

I have been on Methadose (Methadone tablet) for more than 6 years and I would not recommend anyone start it unless nothing else works, you have no money or you don't mind possibly being on METHADOSE for the rest of your life. It can take 9 months to get the drug out of your system completely and the withdraws are the worst.I would love to get off of Methadose and use something else, but i can not afford anything else right now. And you may not be able to function on it. Never get PAIN KILLERS FROM 2 OR MORE DOCTORS, keep 1 doctor or the other. If you get pain killers from 2 or more doctors it is called DOUBLE DIPPING.

You could be a ligit pain patient or an abuser wanting more info, it's hard to tell in this virtual corner world. Methadone and morphine and both the same class, schedule 2 the most controlled of all perscription drugs and all these prescriptions are scrutinized .
