Withdrawal from a mixed cocktail

Hi, I have a friend who had a heroin problem. Although she has been clean for close on 2 years, her doctor has prescribed Valium (10mg X 3 per day), Subutex (2mg X 3 per day) since then. A couple of weeks ago, she was in hospital with bronchial and double pneumonia, and was told that she must stop taking them, but at the same time they dosed her with Ativan and Dormicum for nearly 2 weeks while she was there. As a result, she is going through hell at the moment. She is on day 3 without any of them, and is getting desperate - so much so that she is terrified of a relapse, purely to overcome the withdrawals. Does anyone have any idea how long these w/ds might last? Will be really greatful if anyone might have an idea.

Hi, I am with her now, and she is back to normal. No suffering and full of beans again, She is now on a very slow process of weaning off under specialist advice and guidance. Thanks to you all, and Gob Bless.

Thanks a lot. After one day back on Subutex and Valium, she is back to herself. No more emotional topsy turvey, hot and cold spells, heartbeat steady again, temper in check, etc. Now starts the slow process of weaning off the stuff. She is also very grateful for everyones advice. I will let keep you in touch with her progress.
Regards
Dave

Hi, thanks again. Took her to a specialist, who agreed that sudden discontinuation of Subatex and Valium after prolonged use can be fatal. He has put her back on both, with a plan to gradually wean herself off. Hopefully she will be feeling OK within a few hours, and totally weaned off in a few weeks. Thanks again, much appreciated.

Thanks a lot for the advice, will get her to a doc to check BP and pulse, and ask about Ashton manual. (I have never heard of it, hopefully he has. She has multi vitamins, but hasn't been eating fruit at all - just meat and veg, and muesli in the morning. Will stock up on fruits. Again, thanks a lot. I will let you know how it goes.

er, she might need to be under professional care.  benzo withdrawal can kill you, seriously.  monitor her vitals as best you can, heart rate, blood pressure, and set goals like if bp goes over 145/110 it's hospital time, or if heart rate goes over 150 call a nurse that will give you advice.

day four things should get better.  take a good multi vitamin and good mineral supplement (it's dangerous to have uncontrolled diarrhea).  i like the amino acid protocol, thomas recipe helps with opiate withdrawal symptoms(subutex),  there's something called the ashton manual to help with benzo withdrawal and you might be able to find an ashton friendly doctor near you (it involves tapering and tartration and other fancy stuff).

Good Luck!!!!!!!  We're praying for you!

well when I detoxed off Oxycontin, after day three it started to get better and better each day. Everyone is different though. I would say if she can just hang on for another day or two it will be a lot better. She should be very active....like exercise or walking. Take really hot showers and take vitamins. Definitely eat, even if she doesn't feel hungry. eat fruits and vegetables. Her body needs nourishment right now. If she is afraid of becoming sick after eating she can just eat little bits throughout the day. Now all this I suggested wont magically make her feel all better, but it will get her feeling better faster. Atleast it did for me. Hope this helped. If you have any questions for me, just message me
