You were right decreasing by one every day was too tough for me. considering I was actually taking about 10 a day. I am down to four a day
without a whole lot of problems. I just can't seem to cut down to 3. Thanks for support.

It sounds like you're tapering too quickly. You don't need to taper the opiate but because of the barbiturate you have to taper. I would suggest going to your doctor and explaining your addiction. Ask him/her to prescribe the plain Fioricet and taper off of that. He can give you a suitable taper plan which should be slow to offset the risk of seizure.
I wish you well with this. I tapered off of this junk after many, many years so it can be done. Having some support will definitely go a long way...
to tell you the truth, everytime I tried to quit on my own, I relapsed myself. The mental part is the hardest part. The brain keeps telling you to take it and your body is rejecting you. LOL! I had to get medical help to get off them. the Dr prescribed me phenabarbital and that took away all the icky. Then I tapered off that. What got me after that was that I still had a scrip available, so I picked it up thinking I could outsmart my ownself and wound up back on that coaster. After a few more months of self torture I went back to Doc and admitted myself into rehab. It was the best thing I ever did. It's not the most common route for F, but it worked for me because I had underlying issues surrounding the death of my Mother that got me started using all the time 5 years prior.
I was doing good after that for awhile until same said Doc sent me to a pain management clinic for my neck and migraines. 180 pills a month later, I was a slave to opiates. I really didn't believe I could get addicted to those because I thought the problem was the F. The problem was that I AM and addict and am prone to abuse any kind of narcotic, including alcohol. Everyday is a battle, but my life is more worth it than the path of destruction pills lead me down.
Bananas do help! Get some yogurt, crackers and soup too. Anything soft and easy to digest. You need to feed yourself for energy. Also if you can, get some Ensure. The protein in it makes a difference as well. A good multi vitamin, b vitamins, magnesium, help replenish your body too. If you are having tummy problems and bathroom runs, Immodium multi symptom will help.
Keep posting away...it helps!
Sounds like you're doing well getting over pain meds. When you stopped
F how long before you felt better? I've tried before but always ended up
starting again. I guess I should go get some excedrin and bananas aren't they supposed to help?

We aren't allowed by the mods to give expert opinions on tapering for medical purposes, however I would say that you are on the right track. Can anyone help you taper by holding your meds and only giving you what you need? If you start having wd symptoms it is so easy to want to take one to get rid of the ickies. Plus the fiornal will cause rebound headaches. Make sure you have some OTC pain meds to take as well so your body can get used to using them for relief. I so wish that Excederin was available, but the Walgreens brand of it works pretty good in comparison.
I took fiorcet for over 10 years and it took over my life. Got that behind me, then I discovered pain meds and now here I am fighting the good fight to put those behind me once and for all as well.
Both of them. I meant to say I am down to 5 a day, can i decrease by one every 2 days? Thanks for responding so quickly. I only have the fiornal 3
now.

Hi and Welcome,
Are you taking fiornal or fiorcet? Fiornal has codeine it as well as the barbituate, acetaminophen and caffeine. If it is fiornal, you may have some opiate type wd as well.
You can't go from 5 to every other day when taking a barbituate. I've am a former fiorcet abuser and it is like alcohol wd. You need to continue on your taper plan.
Please post or send me a message if you need to talk! I've been there, done that. It can be done!!
