Hi there, have another question, James seen the doctor yesterday pschyatrist, he is not bi polar but is very depressed, and grieving about the miscarriage, the doctor has increased his meds, added lithium. Ok here what I am wondering, doc said he thinks James should go on methadone which James is not thrilled with, or another drug subatol or something sorry do not remember the name its still a narcotic but legal they can write him a script for it and he would not have to depend on the metth, also 45 minute drive from his home, anyway has anyone ever heard of this med, sorry bout the name, He has a  alright week, tuff but clean 11 days clean but struggles grately finds himself going to bed early if he can sleep and says well another day clean, hopefully rehab will not be long. Have a super day.

Check into an outpatient rehab in your area. They can be very good. Also, he could go to AA and attend a meeting everyday.

Yes. He still needs rehab and really should be taking all the initiative himself. He needs to make the phone calls etc...He could see a therapist privately...

It's great that he has some clean time built up!

If he goes on the Methadone Maintenance Treatment he'll be trading whatever addiction he currently has for one much worse and much harder to break. It will be a millstone around his neck and in the end will probably have to go on Suboxone, which is even stronger, to get off it.

IMO he is much better off paying his dues now and going though whatever trials and tribulations he's going though than what I've outlined above. He may think he has it bad now but he has no idea how bad it can really get.

For the most part, I agree with the above, but do not know exact details of James' state. I've been following your post. Last time James had been clean two months, now you say 11 days clean. Did he relapse or is he finally getting honest? No judgement, just wondering how he is really doing. If he relapsed and is suicidal, a short stay on suboxone will stop craving, make him feel "normal" and avoid relapse on his drug of choice until he gets to rehab. Suboxone has an opiate agonist called nalaxone that prevents abuse and bupenophrine which blocks all other opiates from having any effect. The problem is, doctors do not use suboxone that way. They may want him on it for long term and send him home a new kind of addict. I don't know how they use it in Canada. I would say, for me, the 16 days I used subs saved my life. Anyway it's better than suicide, but he will still have to go through physical withdrawal. Read the suboxone/subutex FAQs at the bottom of the page and ask the doctor what his intentions are. Methadone is my drug of choice and almost killed me, so I am a little biased, though I know it has its appropriate use. I am not giving advice and cannot, but am encouraging you to educate yourself. Only you know all of your circumstance and can make an educated decision. Thank you for helping your son. Good luck and keep us posted.

I agree with above!! Going on methadone or Suboxone is poor advice. At 11days clean he's already through detox. What he needs now is rehab...not a new drug!!   Please know that these drugs are HUGE money makers...and he doesn't need them now.

Keep in touch!

i just wanted to say first that if u have another question u can put it on the same thread u started because there are SOOO many people posting and if someone reads this they may not have a clue about your story or may have forgotten so just post the new question on same thread trust me i made the mistake of doing a new one too and everyone was so confused.. i had to re tell my story a 100 times lol.. he is clean 11 days NO WAY PLEASE DO NOT let them put him on methadone OR suboxen..(sp?) he will have HORRIABLE w d from that too.. just have him ride this out the rest of the way he should be making a major turn around SOON... tell him great job on the 11 days one day at a time is all we have so saying "another clean day" is FABULOUS!!! keep helping him anyway u can as long as he is staying clean... prayers are with him and you... i also lost a baby at 13 weeks then 3 mo later got pregnant and we lost that one at 14 weeks both my husband and i had a TERRIABLE time w it but found our strength in God to get through it we now have a beautiful boy 19 mo and a little girl 6 mo:) dr's said i can't even have babies HA.. God said different.. i know miscarriages are VERY hard i was in the 2nd trimester and already very attached myhusband could not even grieve because he was helping me not completely loose my mind and fall apart it just about killed me:( i would have him talk to a counsler psych dr's will ALWAYS push meds but he will have to get off those eventually too and then be back at square 1 w the w d... if u do some reading u will see how bad methadone and sub is PLEASE PLEASE don't let him take them esp if he already has 11 days clean it will set him back BIG TIME:(
