Xanax...Dr's & Appt's FLAaddict Can You Help?

I hope everyone is well.

On Tuesday, I was supposed to be going into the in-patient medical detox but they wanted me to see my primary care dr. first because I have one kidney. I went in to see my dr. last night (didn't leave until 10:45pm..he spent 2 1/2 hrs. talking to me). He said he felt that I didn't need the in-patient detox. The symptoms I'm having headache, depression, insomnia, phobic, body tremors, heart palpitatins, fear, anxiety is from the Xanax....withdrawing...my body wanting more. I have tapered down to 2.5mgs. per day now. He said he wanted me to stop taking the Xanax today and take 1mg Ativan @ 6am, 0.5 @ 10am, 1mg @ 2pm, 0.5 @ 6pm & 1mg @ 10pm and start taking 60 mg of Cymbalta. Also wanted me to see a phsyciatrist he knows very well and begin seeing her for intensive treatment for depression and work with her therapist of choice.

I don't feel this regimen is right at all.

As I am typing, I just received a call from a physciatrist (female) that I left a message for yesterday seeing if I could get an appt. So I just explained the situation to her she said do not stop taking the Xanax and do not take the Ativan she can see me tomorrow at 2pm and can help me with the Xanax taper, do an evaluation, possibly add an anti-depressant. My feeling is I should go and see her. I'm not so sure my primary doc is understanding that I want off of pills....he wants to somehow turn me into a vegetable???

Please let me know what you think. Thank you so much.
Tracy

Thank you so much for prayer and kind comments, my friend. I know I only drop in occassionally, but it is a pleasure to see so many people making progress in their quest to lead a clean life. BTW I am doing so much better now thanks to following my meds regimen and remaining active. I have ALOT of faith and hope for ALL OF US in the future to come, believing that we shall be part of world changing events that will result in our complete healing. Acting on faith alone here, I realize. When I do log on, I will put on a post where it seems appropriate.  Gods' Richest Blessings,  Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm happy to hear from you. You had a lot of influence in my decision to go into the medical detox and because of your suggestions I raised some concerns with the facility and here I am.

I want you to know that you have brought tears streaming down my cheeks. I have asked and prayed for the Lord to guide me and he is working as we speak.

Thank you for being so caring and understanding. Your words have meant so much to me. Please be sure to keep in touch with me.

Many blessings to you always!
Tracy

Hello. Believe it or not, I was just thinking about you. I notice you post only occasionally now, and I was wondering how you are. I started this forum a few months ago when you were having such a hard time. I just wanted you to know that I still have you on my prayer list and pray for you daily. God bless you for all the help you've provided people.

Dear Tracy,

I am actually relieved to hear that detox has taken physical symptoms and needs into consideration. I want you to know something...you are NOT a drug addict in the accepted sense of the word. And I have been praying for you. You never falsified prescriptions or went Dr shopping, I am sure. You have become medically dependent on an anti anxiety drug to relieve disabling symptoms of panic/phobic disorder. You are not to blame in any way, nor is it any shame to be legitimately medicated for such conditions. Switching benzos or going on SSRIs has worked for some, but been disastrous for others. Please do be careful. Not all MDs are in agreement...far from it. Take heart, Tracy, The Lord will guide you. God Bless, Your friend,  Steve
PS I admire your courage and fortitude!!

Hi...I hope you're doing well!!

I think I should go and see her too. She seemed to have knowledge in tapering from benzos. I will hold off on the physciatrist & therapist my primary wants me to go and see. It feels really weird because for years I felt I should go and see somebody and never did....maybe if I would have I wouldn't of ended up like this.

Thanks!!!
XOXO

WEW---i am not understanding what is your doctors plan..i know adivan is not as strong as xanax, but it is still a benzo and that is alot for trying to get off..
i am not doctor, but i have been through benzo w/d's cold turkey  (klonopin) and it was pure h e l l..
Worst then the opiates for me...Only my experience..
I would go see what she has to say tommorrow...now the anti-depressent was a life savor when i got off of benzo's..i don't know how long the w/'s would of been if i didn't get on lexapro after..
i hope you get more out of your appointment tommorrow..
