Need a pep talk - I'm coming off Percs/Suboxone

OK - I'm in that horrible "I hate myself for going down this road again" phase where I'm giving up the Percocet and will taper off the suboxone.  I'm just so mad at myself for getting re-addicted (I was clean for 6 months), and don't want to go through the withdrawals again - it was so awful last time.  Anyway, I got myself back up to 60 mgs of Percs a day and just found out I can't get anymore, so I have a few subs to hang onto.  I'm terrified I'm going to get really really sick again.  Any short term, as well as long term advice?

Hi There and Welcome,

Your fear of the withdrawal is causing WAY more mental anguish, which in turn creates more physical pain.  You know that continuing on this road is going to get darker, bumpier, and much more frightening than a few days of detox.  You really have to decide that you want your life back.  You need to believe that you are worth it...Because you are.  The thing is, we can't change the past or control the future, all we have is this moment and the choices that we make.  It's about making the choice to be free-and you CAN be.  It takes time, patience, hard work, and a lot of self-love, and you are WORTH it.  We will all be here to support you...SURRENDER.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I understand about the negative self-talk. I have said before that I would probably punch someone over some of the things I have said to myself. We all have our regrets. I know it is difficult, but try to look at the past as the past. Obviously there are things to learn from it, but please don't let it consume you.

As you know from prior experience, withdrawal will not be easy. I used a lot of the vitamins and supplements listed in the Thomas recipe. Immodium for tummy troubles is a must-have. It really does help. For the first couple of days, prepare to hunker down. Lots of fluids like Gatorade or Powerade or Vitamin Water for nutrients. Bananas or a potassium supplements will help with restless legs. Light food such as chicken soup with crackers, broth, and fruit. Uncle Ben's rice is easy to fix and easy on the stomach.

Keep posting here. This forum has helped me get through many a rough day. I hope you stick around. We are here and will do everything possible to help you make it through.
