addiction

The Florida Rapid Detox does not work. I had first heard of it years ago non a Dr. Phil show, although since I have been home sick I pulled him up online and see no mention now of Florida Detox. I did think it weird that they accept no insurance. I have been off the pain meds for a little over a year now. This zanax addiction is worse then any cold turkey withdrawels I had from the Percoset and Loratab. I am trying to wean myself off of 5 1mg a day that vwas given to me for PTSD and Anxiety disorder. My brain is completely scrabbled. I went off cold turkey in 2002 ans 2 years later my brain still felt strange. My husband has been put on so many pain meds for back surgery from three different doctors and drinking on top of it, I swear I have tried to help him but he has become a total different person, stays gone for weeks at a time and will not pick up his phone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes to avisg!  She knows me. LOL!    I first wanted to know what she was already taking for her PTSD in addition to Xanax so I didn't go ahead and suggest the gazillion amino acids that will interfere with an AD.

So, Ashelen, be positive about 5 HTP. It's contraindicated for sure. Along with Sam E, St. John's Wart, Melatonin, Tryptophan...

5 HTP is converted to seratonin. L-tryptophan helps our bodies MAKE serotonin. Seratonin is a brain chemical that, of course, is the chemical that AD's prevent being repeatedly taken up in the brain. So, you can see where it would be a problem if one took these hormones and amino acids while on AD's.  At the very least probably confusion and an upset tummy. At the most: Seratonin Syndrome and that's deadly.

If someone takes a dose or two there's not a problem, in my opinion. Excessive doses for folks who want to feel better fast or sleep now! could be a problem.

I appreciate you keeping an eye on what I'm writing!

I thought that's probably what she was getting at :-). I just wanted to come right out and mention it in case the OP was going to take the 5HTP tonight and was already taking the AD meds.

No you dont want to take the two together. I think thats why vicki was asking what she was on so she did not remomend anything that might intertact together

Just want to mention something I noticed, and vicki correct me if I'm wrong.

If you ARE on anti-depressants, you don't want to take the 5HTP as well. I remember reading about this somewhere, but I'm not positive.

Hi!  I had to read your postings several times so I could figure out what was going on with you. Okay. You're down to taking Xanax 5mg per day. You want to get off of it but the doctors want you on....that's difficult! Will they still refill it for you?

( And congratulations on 13 months clean of opiates!! )

Do you take any othe meds? Antidepressants? Let me know and I can suggest a few healthy and natural preparations...

Never abruptly stop the Xanax. Will the doctor help you with a taper plan?  Xanax must be weaned down very slowly, over a long period of time, and in very small amounts....it may take months to get off of it but it's worth it!

Xanax is a very strong drug if taken a long time some compare it to heroin wds. I was once addicted to xanax and the wds were unreal and they lasted so long but I keep going to na meetings and talking about what I was going through and it helped me to stay clean so I done it and you can to if you want to bad enough Iam a recovering alcoholic to with a few chips in my pocket.       You can do it one day at a time.   Praying don't hurt.

Don't really have anyone that I can confide in, but I found this forum. I truelly beleive for me , cognitive behavioral therapy, grief counceling and a good counselor would also be helpful. Thank You for talking with me, it means so much.

I am glad you will be doing a taper. Please follow your doctor's schedule. It is important for that medication that it be done properly. And be sure to talk about alternatives. If you have not tried counseling you may want to go that route too. Having someone that you feel comfortable with and that you can trust and confide in may help a whole lot.

I know you are concerned about your husband but he doesn't sound like he is ready yet and you cannot force him if he isn't. Concentrate on you and when and if the time comes that he is ready you will be in a better place to support him.

Right now it is about you so stick with it!

It is quiet today but it will pick up. Stick around as other members come on and talk with you. Stick around and let us know how you are doing. Like I said, there is great support here.

As far as him it went from lortab and zanaz, ontop of that percoset and valuim, now neurotin and orphendine. I pulled these up and yes they can be used for many things, my guess since they came from pain management he is using them for that. Drinking at least a case of beer daily and liquior. Like I said I have to take care of ME.

I will do it!!! Spoke to my doctor and thet want me on them for the PTSD and chronic anxiety. I am just going to wean off, it is my life. They had me on 3 1mg a day and 2 1mg for night for the reaccuring flashbacks. I think before if I had not gone cold turkey I made not have had that horrible weird head neuron activity for that many years. It have been off the pain meds since November 2010. It was tough, but I had just made up my mind I was going to do it and did. Now to get off the ciggs. They say it is compared to getting off of heroin or cocaine...I beleive it. As far as my husband he has been on them for 25 years or more and is getting everything and anything from 3 different docs. We are not living together because he has gone completely weird. For now I have to take care of me.

I completely agree. the only person you can help is YOU. I am glad you found this forum as well.

I know how hard it is to come off of the Benzos and the only way to do it properly and avoid a risk of seizures or s set-back would be to taper slowly. Can you speak with your doctor and express your concerns? Ask him/her to put you on a reasonable taper schedule. Also, do your research and find something, hopefully a natural supplement, that will help you with the anxiety. If you don't have a back-up plan then coming off of them will not work.

I do NOT suggest a rapid detox. First, I am not certain they will do it for Benzo withdrawal. I have only heard it is done for Opioid withdrawal. And in that case, there has not been many successful treatments. It is harsh on the system and dangerous if you have any underlying medical problems. It is also quite expensive as you have discovered. Just my opinion, but I do not believe it is a good choice. Nor do I believe any doctor worth his salt would perform it.

So do you think you can come clean with your doctor?

I suppose I had better help myself first. I am so glad I found this forum. I have no one to talk to about this. I do not at all want to be addicted to anything. I just want my life back. I did go cold turkey on the percoset & Lorcet but these zanaxes are a living hell. Like I said going off them before for that long I still never felt or thought the same again. Unlike getting off the pain meds. these are a total different story. I do have the info. on The Florida Detox Center, which says they put you under and Detox your body. After three days your sent home. Seems odd they accept no insurance at all.

Hi & Welcome,

Please forgive me but I don't know how to answer your poll. If the question is stay in your addiction or get help, then the answer is get help. I also don't know if you are seeking help for yourself or for your husband or both. If you could be a little clearer on that there is a lot of help and support here. You are in the right place and there is hope for you both.

Hope to hear back from you. Take care.
