addiction...medical or mental??

I was just informed today by
my psychiatrist office that i
have been discharged from
their practice bc of multiple dr and rx within the last year. I let them know two of the four other drs i had seen were for medical reasons (pneumonia and an auto immune disease),
no narcotics were prescribed,
onedischarged me for not
keeping appts and the other
canceled the only adderall rx
after pharmacy called her. The
psychiatrist i had been seeing
since October 12 had me on 3
20mg adderall and 3 xanax
daily. I dont really like downers so i usually traded with a
friend for ritalin. Im 48 f
dont work and now i dont feel
like i will be able to function. I know its mostly mental bc ive gone a week or two without any stimulant whatsoever. Im just feeling lost my AI disease
leaves me extremely fatigued
and now i feel shot down like a drug seeking junkie...any advice welcome

The aderral is 4 kinds of amphetamine, so when you quit an upper, you feel like a downer. Most withdrawal has an opposite effect of the drug. Opiates made me antsy and anxious, it is a downer analgesic. Nursegirl had a good point. The illegal activity of trading scripts is a huge warning sign. You wanted uppers because you like them and don't like downers. LIKE is the key word to me, you didn't mention if they were effective or helping your condition. No judgement, just bearing witness to some signs I noticed about myself after getting clean.

Most of us here are "drug seeking junkies". You are among friends.....

With all due respect, you kind of contradict yourself here....

You say this...

"I dont really like downers so i usually traded with a
friend for ritalin. Im 48 f
dont work and now i dont feel
like i will be able to function."

Which clearly indicates you have some kind of history of abusing medications.  And then this...

"and now i feel shot down like a drug seeking junkie...any advice welcome"

Would you call yourself an addict?  Obviously, your doctor has uncovered info that makes him uncomfortable continuing to treat you.

It seems to me like maybe you would benefit from seeking some help for your addiction tendencies?  Sometimes things that happen can be the biggest blessing/wake up call.

I wish you the best.
