Want so badly to get off of oxycodone

Thank you for taking the time to help others first of all.  I am a mom of 3 I struggle with fibromyalgia and chronic back/hip pain. I have been in pain management for 2 years. I have gone through injections and had the procedure that burns the nerves to kill them(sorry not exactly sure what they called it.. it did not work however) I have been on Norco then Percocet and now Oxycodone. I hate it. I feel like I am now dependent on this medicine. I do not have an addictive personality but this drug doesn't care about that! I feel like I am so dependent now I need it to fall asleep and then to wake up! OH does this make any sense at all?  I have a great family. I don't hide that I am taking this medicine. I just know that I do not want to take this the rest of my life. I hate it. How in the world do you get off of it without feeling so bad? And what am I going to do once I do get off ?? I am afraid! Thank you again for listening..

It doesn't sound like you've been misusing your meds.  Have you told your pain management doctor that you'd like to come off?  What's your goal?  Do you want to come off permanently and find a different way to manage your pain or do you want to just take a medication holiday?

In either event, the easiest way is to ask your doctor for a taper plan.  They will taper you off so you will have minimal, if any, withdrawals.  It can take some time, though.

Once your off, how will you manage your pain?  Do you have a plan for that?

I have fibromyalgia, among other things.  I found what works for me with the fibro and it doesn't include medications.  For me, I found exercise helps tremendously.  Of course, when I started, I could only walk a length of the pool.  I eventually worked up to swimming 45 minutes to an hour.  And I added in the elliptical.  For some reason, that helped and didn't hurt my hip pain.  Again, I had to build up.

There are procedures that can help.  I was given a lidocaine infusion for nerve pain along with the fibromyalgia.  It helped tremendously while I was being infused.  Unfortunately, I only got relief for about a week or so.  But it's worth looking into.  You may also want to check out the pain management forum here for some other suggestions on how to  manage your pain.

Hi, welcome here :)... Sorry that your post got overlooked... There are some people here who have been on a lot of meds because of their pain and illnesses and injuries and had become dependant on them and didn't like the effects these meds had on theirs... I will let some people that have been on your situation know about you so that they can help you... All the best and have some patience for their answers, pls ...
