Don't be too hard on yourself. Methadone w/d is bad. Top that with an illness and anything would be tempting. Part of our disease lies to us and justifies reasons for us to pick back up. I know codeine is prescribed for coughs that ocm wont touch but only you can decide if you need to start over. Thank God it is nipped in the bud....no need for an all out relapse. Get back on track and keep moving forward.

Lots of fluids, Tylenol or Aspirin, and tea & toast...it works like magic!  Keep your focus straight and your guard up...you'll do just fine!

glad you posted, yes you did answer your own question. that is good that you thought about it and then knew it was wrong in regards to your recovery.
that's right I do remember that you are going to CA. how many meetings a week do you hit?
jon it is important to change your way of thinking. the old way wont work anymore. the pills cant be your go to now.
you are in recovery my friend and you have been doing real well, please don't jeopardize that.
you have had a urine infection since you quit methadone? have you taken any antibiotics for that? have you seen the doctor?
make sure you are staying hydrated to flush out your kidneys.
you are moving in the right direction, keep up the good work.

This bug sure is going around! I, too, have been sick and it was no fun! Can you go to the doctor and get a z-pack? I went last week and got a z-pack and some Prednisone and I'm feeling so much better. Don't try to self medicate if you're feeling bad...go to the doctor and get something that will kill the cold. Congrats on your clean time from methadone and keep moving forward! I know that I found out that getting sick is a trigger for me, and it may be for you too...it's good to recognize our triggers and always keep our guard up.

You know I'm really not sure how I feel about taking them! That's a lie If I didn't feel guilty then I wouldn't have posted on here & we can't lie to ourselves, As for why I took them that's easy I took them because from day 1 of being clean iv had a urine infection & Now a cold while still feeling the WDs off methadone & I thought a painkiller was more suitable because I'm in pain & I have never had a cold while clean & Its what I took for colds tooth aches etc etc the few times I did suffer pain while on methadone & it was all I had, yea I think it was a mistake taking them if it wasn't then I'd feel ok with this Fact, just answered my own question @atthebeach yea I go to CA & AA so I knew better I'm an sick addict & there probably was apart of me that knew what I was doing, Man how easy to fall back dwn to the bottom again!!! Thanx & yes it help both. Cold & sore urine for while anyway No more though I only had 6 sitting around

Well...yes you affected your clean time. Did the codeine help your cold? I'm not sure why you took it but just remember that any opiate will affect your clean time.  Now, in the case of a broken bone, surgery, etc...pain med is necessary and should be monitored by another person.  I say this because its just so easy to fall right back into old habits...

The bottom line is really whether YOU think your clean time was affected. You're the only one who knows why you took the codeine and how you feel about it now.

please don't take them anymore it could become an issue.
there are much better things to take for a cold besides codeine.
use decongestants, drink lots of fluids, just Paracetamol for the aches and pains. use a neti pot or a nasal spray.
codeine is an opiate based.

congrats on your clean time you are doing awesome.
are you in counseling, attending support groups?
