When will I stop relapsing???

I have tried 3 times to go at it.  First time i tried to wean from the oxy but just did not have the control or will power to do so.  Then i have tried cold turkey twice and i finally made it 4 days and then gave in again.  Mentally i am such a mess.  The drugs consume my mind.  I try and keep busy but it has such a strong hold over me.  I really, really want to be clean.  What do i need to do differently?  How do i cope with the mental cravings??  Is this part of recovery...relapsing?

I know it is scary to go to meetings but people just like the people on these posts are at the meetings and they will help you...they will support you and they will understand you.  You don't have to speak if you don't want to just go at first and listen.  Take your time at meetings and as you listen pick out people that say things you feel that you relate to and then try to ask them for their phone number a lot of what happens in NA is over the phone one addict to another.  Please go you will not regret it.

Thank you for all your support and kind words.  I have looked into NA meetings in my area.  They seem to have many everyday of the week.  Now i just need to get the courage to go.  I need to break all ties and connections.  That is such an issue when you have easy access to scripts.  I am going to prepare myself again for cold turkey.  I will never give up.  I will keep on trying until it works.  I know now that i cannot do this alone.  I wish you all were in my area so we could meet and have our own NA meetings.  You guys are the best.  Keep pushing me...i need you guys.  Thanks again.  Hugs to you all.  jlb

You might consider going to NA meetings to get support from other addicts and learn about tools that help us with the mental compulsion.  If you are really struggling you might also ask your doctor for help. Neurontin and suboxone are used to help with the withdrawals and for some can be the answer to getting long term sobriety. I know there is controversy about these methods but truly it is a personal choice and you need to educate yourself and make it yourself.

The mental part and the mind games we play when craving are tough to overcome, but by learning the tools to stay clean our chances at success are much better. Learning how to reach out when your feeling weak and get support instead of popping a pill. Learn your triggers and try to stay away from them. Find some type of aftercare such as N/A meetings for example. It takes work to break this cycle, but it gets easier when we make these changes and get some clean time under our belt. Best of luck to you.

When you finally make up your mind that enough is enough and you cant do this alone then things will change.  We cant stress aftercare enough.  It is so vital to our success in recovery......You can do this!!          sara

Recovery is different for all addicts but I would guess that the vast majority relapse several times before quitting for good.  I've gone through wd's more times that I can remember.  It *****, it's embarrassing and it's no fun but it's what has happened and we need to keep pushing to quit.  Each time you quit again you will do better and eventually you'll either quit on your own or you'll decide to go to rehab or NA or someplace that will help you.  The wd's are bad but if you keep reminding yourself that they only last a week or two you'll be able to get through them.  You said you've gotten to day four which means you made it through three of the worst days.  Days one through four are the worst and then it's downhill after that.  By days 8-9-10 many people are through the physical symptoms.  Even for those who were for whatever reason had extra bad wd's the symptoms are gone within 14 days at the most.

You can do it.

Hello after reading your post I wanted to make a comment I feel that relapse is a part of your recovery this whole recovery process is a inside job changing thoughts, changing every thing remember the Seinfeld episode where George decided to do every thing opposite of every thing he would normally do then he created through doing every thing opposite a new girl, new job with the Yankees and started dressing different even looked different that’s the way recovery is going to be totally opposite life. Another thing help others with there problems by me trying to help you I help my self, and here is the best and simplest way is remember its just one day at a time I don’t know how many times I heard this but I finely get it! its just one day at a time. Good luck and Thank you for being real

there never seems to be a good reason why we relapse besides we do it again b/c we want to... I would really consider a rehab facility to get some good help and a little foundation and direction on getting and staying clean....Then meetings or some sort of group or therapy following. This is what worked for me I was never strong enough to do it and keep doing it on my own,I never lasted more than 2 wks..I am now just over 7 mos clean from heroin, and I owe it all to surrenduring and checking myself into a 30 day program...that's just my experience,I wish you the best, once you get clean the hell is over and life is so much more full!!!Daisy

You have to completely change up your way of thinking and ask for help. I thought I could do this alone for 5 years...and, I continued to relapse for 5 years. Finally, I asked for help and went to rehab and meetings. It may be time for you to consider this option.

Hey,
It doesn't have to be a part of recovery, but for SOME of us, it just is.
You have to stop wanting the high. That's the problem. You have to accept that you can not use anymore at all!
It is a lot of will power at FIRST, but after the detox, you need aftercare. You can do this. We have done this, so you can do it too.

Cut off dealers, lose numbers, flush remaining pills, and hop on board. We will steer you until you can steer yourself, I promise.
