can you help

by scared829, Mar 30, 2009 11:05AM
I am addicted to darvocet.  I want to stop taking it. I have a few left, should I just throw them away or slowly take them.  I've been taking between 12-16 pills a day.  I hate this and I want to stop.  I don't want to die.  Please, any advice is appreciated.  It has gotten worse over the past 3 years.  Please help.

honey, i would break them in half and wait until you start to feel the withdrawal symptoms begin, then try a half. you are going to have withdrawal. i have been off them for about a month and it was hard. i went to the doctor that was giving them to me. i brought him a copy of the thomas recipe(lower right of this page) and he prescribed me some valium to use for the first 5 days. i was on darvs for like 20 years taking about the same amount as you. if you want to pm me, please feel free. not too many darvocet addicts on here. mostly vicodin and percocet addicts. alot of people think that darvs aren't that bad to come off of. they are. i will help you in any way i can. good luck.   sway

First off great on wanting to come off them!! I am sorry to tell you, you still will have w/d's even if you do a taper. Have you told your doc? There are things out there to help.
I went from 10 to 12 a day hydro to now being 17 days clean. Taper with the last of pills if you can. w/d's last about week some less some more.

I, too, was addicted to Darvocet at one time.
People just laughed at me (including Dr) when I said they were too weak of a drug to cause much WD. HA! That's so not true!
I took just about the same amount as you.
I've never been able to taper, but if you only have a few left & don't have access to more, I agree with Sway, just cut them in half & try not to take a half unless it's absolutley nessasary. I was told that Darvocet sorta binds to the same receptors as Methadone. I don't have the scientific research in front of me to send to you, but you could Google it.
I started on Darvocet YEARS ago & now I'm 21 days clean from FENTANYL.
Darvocet was a "gateway" drug for me. And something I could usually get most Dr's to precscribe if they were the "careful" DR's.
I'll help you in anyway I can!
