codeine addiction

Hi i just had a few questions about going to see my doctor about codeine addiction, i'll give you some background info first if thats ok, i started taking codeine about three years ago for dental pain they were called kapake and had 30mg of codeine in them and 500mg paracetamol,i took these for about a month then the perscription was stopped,i was then able to get the same drug just a defferant name from a friend for about a year and thats how i became addicted, the problem im having now is that im not able to get the presciption codiene from the friend anymore and i've been having to take an over the counter product called solpadiene which has 8mg of codiene in it and 500mg of paracetamol, the thing is im having to take stupid amounts of them to get the relief i got from the prescription variety im having to take 16 of them a day and thats an awful lot of paracetamol to take in a day, my question is that if i went to a doc and explained this would he be willing to give me a prescription of kapake again because at most i only need 6 of them throughout the whole day compared to 16 solpadiene,or would he just laugh at me for wasting his time,i really don't know what to do about this because i dont like having to take that much paracetamol in a day but at the minute i don't have a choice in the matter

I am confused, are you trying to quit or are you asking the best way to get more? I don't know your whole story so I can not tell you if you are an addict only you can decide that but if you are taking pills to get high and not for legit pain then you might want to think about it, Take care and we are here if you need help from recovery.

sorry i knwo my post was kind of confusing, to answer your question there's no way im mentally ready to come off them and what i meant about going to the doc is will he prescribe me the 30mg one's until im able to come off them so im not having to take so much paracetamol from the over the counter variety,im not just taking them to get high im physically and mentally addicted to them and can't funtion in any decent way without them

Not sure what the doc will do but I can promise he won't just keep giving them to ya. He might work out a taper with you and maybe he could help with the mental part. It is impossible to get off opiates if you don't want to. Maybe suboxne or something would be good for you. Maybe you could talk with your doc about that. Good luck and let me know how it goes

unless you have legimate pain they probably won't give them to you. and if they do well you'll just have to worry about getting more all the time and its not fun.  codiene s meant for short term pain.  I've been on it for 5years and it sucks. you take it just to feel normal not to mention ones poor stomache and bowels.  good luck don't go there
