Alcohol W/D

I have a friend that has been drinking very heavily for about ten days. By heavy I mean a fifth of Vodka daily. If I C/T him what kind of reaction can we expect? I understand alcohol w/d can kill people and that frightens him but I just can't believe that short a time will do that. I would think he is just going to have anxiety (which is a problem of his anyway) and some discomfort.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

No problem in the delay on the answer. I appreciate the time you have taken to get back to me.
Before the ten days he didn't drink at all but has been weaning off of benzos and stopped Vicodin c/t over a month ago. I was also using Vicodin and we stopped together and I am weaning off the benzos together. He admitted the alcohol to me this morning and I just do not want him to have to go through anymore than he and I have had to endure. I guess to reiterate the answer to your question; no, he did not drink before ten days ago. He actually does not like alcohol and is using it to back off the anxiety.

Hi, Sorry your post hasn't  been answered yet. The weekends are slower here...esp. on a holiday.  Most of the members here are opiate or coke addicts but some were cross addicted. I don't know whether 10 days is enough time to get addicted...that is alot of alcohol. Was he drinking at all before that? Alcohol withdrawl can be fatal and needs to be done at a rehab center or hospital. You can call a center and I'm sure they would answer your questions. Hopefully someone else will come on and be able to help. God bless, Corey
