constipation on methadone....

Evilest thing ever ! like passing grit :( any suggestions on wot 2 do. . . no laxitives seem to work 4 me. . .

I've been on it for some time now 4 years, I think. Anyhow you can take a stool softener once in a while but don't let your body get use to that doing the work. Follow the directions on the back of the bottle or box and use it only until things are on the move again.  But u also need to drink more fluids and get more fiber in your diet too.  Remember exercise is also important.  Avoid a lot of cheese,  bananas and other foods that cause you constipation. If this doesn't help then you will need to talk to a doctor. Yes, your body does adjust to taking to it and it will also remind you if your not doing enough of the above.  elaine

Yeah I always had the same problem, I tried a few different stool softeners/laxitives but nothing that worked very good. Its basicly just a side effect that I always had to deal with, but I remember how bad it hurt sometimes. Sorry I dont have a good suggestion for you, just thought Id let you know I had the same problem when I was on methadone. Take Care.

it seemed worse much worse in the beginning i spose ive just got used to it. . .but it still damn hurts!!
