Methadone Withdrawal

I have been on methadone for a little over 3 years and for the last 2 months I have been trying to detox myself off. I have had a real bad problem trying to get off methadone real quick, I am real confused at this moment, the dose I was taking was 120mg every morning of meth, now im down to 30mg a day.  I have a hard time eating, im sweating alot, and Im not sleeping more than 3 hours a day if at all. I am also having cravings for the narcotic's that i got on methadone for, also dreams about doing the drugs. I really want to get off meth but I dont think Im strong enough to stay sober, something that i hate to say. If anyone has any information or a thought that might help i would be very greatfull.     Thank You for listening,  lan002

Gnarly, I can't begin to congratulate you on the progress and method of your recovery.  Our son died of a methadone OD last April after a 2 year struggle with his addiction.  He had a very high tolerance (as much as 1600 mg that I know of).

I think his death was due to two factors: 1) trying several times to taper too fast (he was always in a hurry); and 2) when he relapsed, miscalculating the dosage, because of loss of tolerance.  From what I have read of other people's experience, these are both serious dangers in methadone recovery, and should be kept in mind.  In the overdose, loss of consciousness happens VERY quickly, and can result in death from respiration failure in only a few minutes.

Hi and welcome to the forum....well it seams that you have tapered down at an incredibly fast rate...thats why your withdrawals are so sever you need to taper off more slowly...it took me 8 1/2 mo to go frome 150 to 1ml ...10% every 72hr is the formula
I used and thats considered fast  slow down your taper and some of the side effects
should subside...as for cravings....they happen its what you do with them that makes or breaks ya...you need to get involved with some aftercare like N/A or a good drug conslor
b/4 this becomes a problem...I got 97 days clean today but I would have crashed and burned if it wasn't for aftercare so check into some...you can do this its just going to take a bit more time then you like...there is no sense in torchering yourself wile doing this take your time this is a race one by the tortus not the hare..keep posting here on the forum there is lots of people to support you..I will help you all I can ...good luck and god bless....Gnarly
