want to taper off xanax and fioricet #3

i started taking fioricet #3 and xanax 3 years ago.  i started yhe xanax because of stress at work because of a bullying boss.  She was horrible.  The stress led to migrains and then i found out i had a back problems.  The pain in my back is bad.  I then had to quit my job because my grandchildren were taken away from their parents for domestic violence, so i have been taking care of them for nearly a year.  i am taking 4.5 mg of xanax a day and 6 fioricets a day.  I want to quit extremely bad and want to do it on my own, but want to do it safely.  I started going to several doctors just to have enough medication.  Please can anyone tell me what is the safest way to taper off the medication and also i have been told this is called "doctor shopping" which is illegal.  Now i"m afraid to pick up my prescriptions for fear of being arrested.  I live in texas and i don;t know if this is illegal or not.  Please help!!  Never want to take these medications again.

YOU need to come clean with one of your doctors and tell them you need help...YOU HAVE TO TAPER VERY SLOWLEY FROM BOTH MEDS....there are high risks of sezures coming off both meds you cant do this alone .........

i don;t intend to ever pick up any more prescriptions and i am tapering off as of today.  i cut the #3 to 3 pills today.  cut the xanax by 1.  i just don't want to open the door one day and someone be there to arrest me.  I am a determined person and i've made up my mind to quit.  i'm still wondering how it all happened.  thank you for answering and chatting with me.

That is an answer that I cannot give you..  Simply because it comes down to plain KARMA.. If you feel you can get away with what you have done without getting caught and this is your ONLY CONCERN, then you have that option.. If you care about making the wrongs right and just coming clean then I am sure there will be consiquenses for your actions but then will this be a better resolution in your opinion?

The main thing is that you get you addiction under control, and if you were to do this then you would have NO REASON TO DR SHOP RIGHT?  So my best adivce is to bite the bullet and get honest with the dr.(as honest as you want to be) and then ask for help!  This way you can take care of the root of the problem..  Addiction is a hirrible thing and if you do not take care of this ASAP!  Then you might even get desperate and go pick up other scripts right? RIGHT!!!  

So do the right thing.. You seem to be not a bad person, but more of a confused and addicted person that is acting based on instint.. So lets take care of this OK?

Thank you for your input.  if i don't pick up any more prescriptions do you think i will be o.k. legally.  should i tell my real dr. about the other doctors or not?

YES, IT IS ILLEGAL!!  You need to not go get anymore meds from any other doctors anymore if you care about your freedom..As for quitting, the meds you are taking are not that strong(compared to many others) and you are not taking that much of them in a day either(compared to most)..So as for the fioricet w/codiene right?  I would just taper as slowly as possible with however many you have left. If you are out then I suggest just not taking them anymore and yes it will be hard but in your case it is VERY DO-ABLE!

As for the xanax, that to me is a more important that you get off of CORRECTLY!!  Just stopping the xanax can be VERY HARMFUL!  So you need to make sure to go to your "REAL" DR and ask them to get you off of them and ask for their help..

Sorry you are in this position, but it could be alot worse. You are DR shopping and that is very SERIOUSLY ILLEGAL and that is the #1 thing you have to stop first..
