does anyone know where i can get help to safely detox off methadone?

You should ween yourself off it. I've been on it for over 6 years and have tried twice to get off it unsucessfully.It's damn hard. I was told it's worse than getting off heroin. The withdrawals last weeks. I may just stay on it forever because I'm only on 20 mgs. and used to be on 95. Even when I went down 1 mg. every 3 weeks I felt it. All of last year I was going through withdrawal and didn't know it because I thought going down so little at a time there was no way I would feel it. But I wondered why I was tired all the time and anxious. Then I upped it to 20 and have felt fine ever since. It's tough to go cold turkey if not impossible. Be careful or talk to a doctor who knows about methadone.

Talk with your doctor if you have one.  Otherwise, find a detox center or a doctor who is willing to do a taper with you.  Methadone really has to be tapered.  How long have you been on it?  Do you have a doc now that you could talk to?
