Hi Myday! So there could be several reasons why your nose hurts hours after you have snorted your pills. Anything from dried out mucas membranes, chronic vasoconstriction of the blood vessels which over time can cause your septum to deviate, infection, blood clots etc etc. Its hard to say what will help the nose pain because it all really depends on why its hurting. Make sense? I agree with Pat though and you should maybe try saline soulution or even vasaline. Those might help. my BEST advice obviously would be to not snort them at all but Im sure you probably already know that you shouldnt :) If it continues I would call your Dr.

I completely understand that you and your husband have had to be on the pills for various legitimate reasons in the past. Alot of us have, Me included. But just know this, I always had pain before I stopped taking opiates and I was scared to stop because the pain was bound to be worse right? Well it was initially for a few days but to be honest, in the last few days I had worse pain while high on the pills than I do now! I think alot of it is these drugs play tricks on your mind and once addicted it tricks you into thinking you CANT survive without them. I am finding in my situation it to be completely opposite.

I hope you and your husband make the decision to stop. there is alot of support here on this forum and alot of people who have chronic pain and are clean off of opiates who can give you advice on how to manage your pain if you need it. We are here for you and hope you will decide to take your life back before its too late!

best wishes!

I really don't know anything about the nose pain but maybe you can try some of the saline sprays or the saline rinses that they have.  I use them and they help with my sinus headaches.
If you are going to taper make sure you don't drop too fast.  A slow steady taper works the best or just go cold turkey and get it over with.
Your husband has been on them a long time and it would be best if he could talk to his doctor and work out a taper plan.
It won't be easy but it is doable.  Many success stories on this forum.
Good luck and keep us posted.
You will have lots of questions so don't hesitate to ask.
I hope someone can respond to the nose pain issue.  I didn't ever snort my pills so I don't know.

We are both ready to quit. He has been on pain killers for almost 7 years. And i for the last year at least. He needs to have knee and ankle surgery. Broken them so many times to count. And i have issues with Ovaries and cyst. Plus we both need dental work. So there are many reasons for the use of the pills. But we both know its getting out of hand. He and i both sort them. So when we go a few hours with out snorting a pill our nose will start hurting so bad that we break down and go right back. I tried today to go without one and last about 7 hours after waking up that i gave in and did one. I have only done about 25 mg today. So i cut down half of mg in one day. He did about 50 mg today which is good for him since i didnt realize how much he was really doing. It was close to 100 mg a day. So any help we can get would be nice. Is there any thing we could use to stop the nose pain? Thank you for all your help.

Sleep is tough, take it as it comes. You can do this!

Welcome myday1977. You have come to the right place if your really wanting to take your life back and get clean. You said you were doing about 50mg a day? For how long?  Why were you using them? These questions can help me and others answer your questions I think.

Also does your husband have any interest in quitting or just you? The reason I ask that is because it will make a HUGE difference in if you are successful or not. Not only for the support you can both give each other but more importantly, because you will NOT have access to pills because he continues to use. Make sense?

I know withdrawls can seem scary and Im not going to lie, some of them suck. Kinda feels like you have the flu. BUT the worst of it lasts 3-4 days from the physical stand point. The mental standpoint take a while longer but all very worth it if your READY to get clean.Check out the Thomas Recipe online. It can give you alot of good ways to help combat the symptoms which may help aid you to continue working.

You are in the right place here on this forum! There are alot of wonderful people who have either been through this and are safely on the other side of it, and others who are going through it now but can give alot of insight into what to expect.

Were all here for you AND your husband if you are both ready to take your lives back and be pill free!

Good luck and keep us posted!

You could taper.....dropping small amounts over a set time frame.  We can't give taper specifics...but the slower the better.  You have to give your body time to get used to the drop and it can take a few days for that to happen.  You will start to have withdrawal symptoms at some point in the taper and that is usually an indicator to jump and quit all together.  Cutting ALL ties to the pills is a must do!  Good luck.
