Hey buddy. Glad you're hangin in there. I remember telling you that your wife would see a difference and change her mind. Yay! I hadn't heard an update from you in a while. You where on opiates a long time, it's hard to say how long it will take, sorry to say. I've been clean about 4 months and the motivation thing is still lingering. I had a bad day a couple days ago, and a major mental breakthrough. I'm starting to think a lot of it is mental at this point. I know you go to church, but do you work the 12 steps are get counsel specific for addiction? Sometimes my group counseling makes me feel worse, but once I get through it, I feel stronger and more in control. This week has been a perfect example of that. I feel like I'm having to find a whole new way of thinking about "feeling good." It's been slow going, but I can say that it does keep getting better. I'm having to work for it, not like the opiate world of escape. I slept about 6 hrs last nigh myself. I'm not really sure what my natural rhythm is, I haven't had one in so long. Not sure if this helps, but wanted you to know, you're not alone. Exercise seems to be the only thing that helps me build more endurance. Congrats on being an inspiration to your wife, that's beautiful.

For me, exercise and eating right has been key at the 4 month mark.  I'm not perfect, but I try to supplement with a quality amino acid and protein supplement, eat veggies and fruit, and stay away from processed foods.  I think doing that given our brains the best chance to get better as soon as possible.  I have given myself a year, I figure it will take about that long for me to be normal....whatever that may be.  Either way, no pills is better.

Congrats on your clean time.

Take a look at the book Healing the Addicted Brain, by Harold Urschel.  A book that helped me a great deal was End Your Addiction Now, by Charles Gant, which is all about getting your neurotransmitter levels right via the right amino acids.

Maybe you can start watching all the games with that friend. If you can't make a meeting, at least you can hang out with people that understand. Keep on doing what you're doing, it all comes together. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but it always materializes if we work for it.
