Can't wait for that sand! I'm getting there!
Hi!
First I want to tell you congrats on your time so far. It does seem to move like a turtle for awhile. Then out of know where you are running like the road runner as you go around and Beep-Beep. The time frame all depends on many factors, like how long you used, or how many drugs you come off of and so on.
I have been mentioning this info on here for over 2 and a half yrs now. If you only used for such a short time frame then you should bounce back quick. The longer or more yrs we have used takes a while. The brain neuro- chemistry gets all out of whack. All the energy or happy receptors, chems, transmitters are knocked down during drug or alcohol use. This is why when we come clean it takes the BRAIN/MENTAL part to fire back up or flip back over.
There is a Mid-brain called the Pleasure part of the brain which is the survival part. If you feed it at all, it remembers the pleasure and off you go..This is why AA/NA tell you that One is to many and a Thousand is not enough. Most people do not talk about it in a more Scientific way, but they still get the point across even if they call it a allergy or a hamster wheel turning around and around again.
The good news is that I fully believe that you will bounce back real soon. You are VERY lucky you did not use most of your Life. I have used off & on for over 40 and I am so MAD i did. Got clean at 56. I went c/t from 3 meds and it was no walk in the park. It went on & on as I healed. It took that old brain of mine at least 2 yrs to flip back and fire up. The mental is the most strangest part of it all. You are going to feel feeling you never have and each day a new layer is removed. I was just like you and after the High Anxiety to the moon and no solid sleep for months, I too hit a NO Motivation or No interest part. This all will pass as you grow more into Recovery..Just know WE can NOT do it alone. I go to both AA/NA even if it has been yrs since I drank. I do like the AA because for me it seems a bit more on the spiritual side. I like them both.
SO just hang on to that Surf Board and Ride them Waves..You will be tip- toeing through the Sand soon.
Bless
Oops I meant most people in AA have drug issues, not most people on earth...lol.
Hi, mlajl- like Gnarly wrote, I chose AA because there are SOOO many meetings literally a few blocks away. Then I got attached to my meetings/people and stayed. Most people have drug issues anyway. When you go you will see how many of us addicts/alcoholics there are...tons!:)
Oh, yes, and the early days crawl, because you feel like sh!t. Don't worry, when you start to feel more "normal" and like an actual human being, the days really fly. You are right where you are supposed to be.
Thanks guys.. I didn't think to go to a aa meeting.. there is one a block away from me.. I know they meet on Friday nights.. I see people dragging in there.. with a big sign out front.. I'll go and try it.. I'll look on the online site too.. thanks again! Usually 20 days fly by. These last 20 days have slowly ticked by ugh..

Hey there!! All the things your feeling are all normal, it really does come in waves. One minute you wanna conquer the world, the next your crying over nothing. I know your probably tired of hearing this, but it will pass in time. I too am 38, you my friend are a strong woman, to do this with 3 toddlers and a teen, wow!! I could barely do it with one, I feel like a weenie, lol. I just recently started aftercare, and it's really helped me to cope with stress that causes me to use and given me advice on how to prevent another relapse. If your not able to make it to a meeting, you might google the smart recovery program online, it's very insightful. I wish you the very best! Good Luck!!!~Sherry
20 days clean. Not 30.. typo..
