hydrocodone withdrawal

Seven months of the highest hydrocodone dose and taking 2 every 4-5 hours for rotator cuff and bone shaving (cuff was removed and reattached...after 3 months of walking around with a broken arm that had grown back crooked).

Dr. Lowered dose to 7.5/425 -40 per week...for 2 wk...then to 5 mg...40 per week. I took none for 2 days and wd symptoms were so severe that I have taken 5 mg several times a day for over a week. Must be able to work.

My back aches so badly that I can hardly bear it, the anxiety is extreme, and I want to know what most effective help medically. Have read about xanax and other helps. Anyone? Thanks.

Thanks! I think the anxiety if wd may be worse than just doing...instead of dragging this process seemingly over and over. Will just do it. Have the Thomas recipe. Once I realized my dependency, I simply can't stand the thought if taking hydrocodone any longer.  Today is 36 hr and day 2. Hot baths this p.m. and Advil today.

Unforuntanetly you can't really avoid the withdrawals. It will help that your doctor seems to be tapering you off and the lower you get in the taper the less you'll feel the withdrawals, however they will probably not be completely avoided. If it's possible to get a day or two or three off work, as sick days, that would allow you to get yourself better. One of the hardest things for me is trying to detox while still managing my life, the pain and sickness of withdrawal is often so terrible that if i'm also trying to manage my life while detoxing I often end up making up excuses to get more oxycontin. In terms of medications to help, there are lots of homeopathic vitamins and remedies, there are over the counter stuff of course like advil or specific stuff for the restless legs. In terms of prescription, some people take xanax or ambien to help with sleeping, but you have to be careful some people do that and end up switching addictions. OFten times the back pain will be worse as you are detoxing, if you give yourself some time off the opiate you may notice that the back pain is not as bad.
