It takes us a while to see things as they are. Be open and honest and if he or she shrugs you off, go somewhere else. I know it is hard being assertive with a doctor. There are some who don't like it when you question them because they feel they are the experts. Be calm and explain your concerns and goals. If this doctor is any good at all, he or she will listen and help you. If not, be like Donald Trump and say, " You're Fired! " ;)
Thanks again minn!!! You are right, doctors are in a dilemma sometimes, so i don't want to bash them or anything. I was really looking for people who have had positive experiences with doctors. I am glad you found a good one for your pain management. I also think now that i am an adult (even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes, lol) i need to be more proactive and be more responsible with what i decide to put in my body. I can't believe how much in denial i have been while on vicodin. it's like now that the fog is starting to lift i am realizing how screwed up my thinking has been with everything. Wow. lol
I do understand. Are you comfortable at all with your doctor? It does sometimes take several tries before you find a good fit, so to speak. Also, I kind of think doctors are in a dilemma. They have a patient come in who is depressed and they are expected to do something. So, he or she may prescribe something to at least do something to help.
I also have had doctors who don't pay attention to what I say. I am firing my primary care doctor for that reason. He makes me feel intimidated. As for my pain management doctor, she is great. She was and is very supportive of me managing my pain without opiates and offered other options. Remember, you hire the doctor. If you don't feel comfortable or feel like he or she doesn't listen, find one that does. They are out there.
I hope this helps and best of luck :)
