Hep me get rid of Methadone please,

Hello to all, I’ve been on Methadone for the past 11 years. I’ve been thinking (again) about stop going to the Methadone clinic for a while now. I had to do it once for 16 days when I went back home.  But I just want it to end it. I want to stop using Methadone. I do not use drugs and haven’t done so for almost four years. I want to stop Methadone so bad; however, I keep remembering those awful 16 days.  Can someone please tell me how I can I get rid of this ball and chain. I have a good job and the best family and … Nevertheless I am always ashamed. I’m ashamed because deep down, in my heart of hearts, I know I am not drug free yet. Not as long as I am going to this clinic. Thanks,

HI if you want to get off methadone you need a plan its not a drug you just quit taking you will become deathly sick if you start a slow taper off depending on your dose within a yr most people can be off whats your dose if you dont mind me asking??? we can work with any number I was on 150mg for 6 1/2 yr and now got a few days past 2yr clean it is worlth all the effort it takes to get off it I help most of the methadoinaons get off this stuff and will help you also I will loke tomorrow to see if you posted back good luck and God bless.....Gnarly

It is a slow taper. Talk to your counselor and doctor at the clinic and tell them you want to  tape. They will most likely will try to talk you out of it.they usually do. Be persistant . Have them come up with a taper plan.
What dosage are you on?

You dont have to be a prisoner to these meds anymore.  It will be a rough period but so worth it in the end.  Dont give up hope, we will be here to help you thru~~sara

I hear your pain. You can do this but you need to do it safely. There are a lot of people here who know a lot about Methadone, especially Gnarly. He should show up at some point or send him a private message.
And do exactly what he says...
