Hi Rick,
I suffered from the same problem that you do and until I went in and had the nerves burned so that the pain was gone nothing worked. I was very afraid to have it done but now it was the best thing that i could have done. I no longer require pain meds.

I usd a taper to withdraw from percs....if you have a desire to quit, you can do this.  I started by cutting my pills in half and thendosing very few hours on a schedule with the doses becoming further and further apart until i stopped completely.  Used my cell as an alarm clock to tell me when to dose.  55 days clean today.

Hi Richard, you have come to the right place :)
Now, its 3:30'ish ET, so you wont get alot of response tonight, but come back in the am, and you will be pleasantly surprised! There are plenty of people here with the same issue you have (including me). I had 2 surgeries and legit pain, but I began to abuse the vicodin and percocet, so I feel you, buddy. At first its so great, then it quickly builds tolerance til it slucks so bad! I never got to the "no high" part, but its my understanding from other addicts that eventually a person gets to the point that the meds only keep them from getting sick (ie withdrawing) and no high.
You ask how to slow down. There is something called "tapering". It means taking less and less until you take none. It cuts down alot of the physical withdrawals, so I hear. I was NOT a person who could taper. I had em, I ate em, period. So much for tapering for me, but if you can do it, it sounds better than cold turkey (which I did)
Cold Turkey (no pills) is physically about like a bad flu. If you go to the very top of this page and click on "Health Pages" you will find lots of good info on quitting (check out Thomas recipe too!) You might have to scroll over to the right if you dont have your window open enough to see it.
The other thing I can tell you is that the people here all care. We all talk to each other, encourage and support each other, and its fabulous. If you can get some of it out, it really helps. Please keep reading as many posts as you can, and post as much as you are comfortable. We will help you all we can. I am 30 days past my last pill, and still working on recovery. I have to tell you that not worrying about the next pill, or what I have forgotten next, is a BIG relief, maybe you can relate. Take care of yourself.
Peace~

no seizures really that is more with the ultram heart attack if you have heart problems already then it can but if your heart is healthy than not likely. a slow tapper is best start out taking just enough to ease the withdrawal symptoms and stay there until the body gets used to it then drope to a lower dose do this until you get down to 1-2 pills a day it will take a few weeks to month to do at that level it should minamize your W/D symptoms but not get rid of them clonidine helps it is a blood perasure med. amios help
keep posting there are alot of good people here and we are all here to help cause we have been were you are at. We do not judge anyone here keep posting and stay srong and welcome you are in the right place for help
