Both have to be tapered, so it won't matter if you switch.  Suboxone is going to be hard to stop too, so if you are thinking that it will keep you from having WDs, it won't.  You could talk with your doc and have him help you taper the methadone, and then you'd be done with it instead of switching to something that is just as bad.

Sorry!  Good luck!

I looked talked to my doctor about switching from Methadone to suboxone. She said as soon as you take the suboxone you go into full blown withdrawals and continue to have them. So she is tapering me off the methadone. There is no easy way out with this drug. Trust me I've tried, I was on 100mg/day and am now down to 92mgs. it is a very slow process, and you get slight withdrawals.
hope this helps you

Last year I tapered down to 30 of methadone and it took me going thru w/d for 4 days before I could get my first dose of subs. I wish to god I could have taken subs ALL ALONG. It is truly a great drug...I withdrew off of 50 mgs of (cold turkey)methadone and was still in w/d's 40 days later w/no avail...suboxone other than the depression with withdrawls it it nothing compared to methadone...with out a doubt it is soooo easy to taper down!...from the freedom aspect, to the dosing, to the half-life, to the fact that you actually feel alive instead of being a zombie and enslaved to the humiliating clinic instead of simply having a 1 on 1 relationship w/a doc that really cares is hands down the way to go.If you ever trust anything, trust this. Last year I went for a vacation for a whole month and didnt once have to check into a clinic and pay 20 bills EACH DAY to guest dose. Please dont stay on that program, do yourself a favor!

And BTW...the ONLY w/d I went thru was the 4 days between my first dose of subs...then the subs took them away completely.....I swear.

HI your going to have to get your methadone dose down below 30  the physicians desk reference recommends 20mg but people have done it at 30mg you have to be in full blown withdrawals to avoid persicpatated withdrawals witch will make you miserable but after detoxing from methadone theresc cgot to be an ez way and we have had several members use sub successfully usually for around 90 days but that will be up to your doctor give it a try but be sure to sbablize your dose to no more then 30 mg and for several days methadone has a long 1/2 life good luck and God bless......Gnarly

Tapered off in 09.I was on methadone for pain because I had no insurance so getting off was really rough. Never had to go to a clinic but 2 of my friends did..that's how I know all about those places. But subs saved the day...gotta be on them for a short time. That's the trick.
