oxycotin prescibed / norco 10/325

I've been on Oxycotin for almost 10 yrs went from 80 mg in AM & 40 mg PM, then 40/20 mg, 20/10 mg, 10/10 mg then 10 mg & PM oxycodone 5 mg for a chronic pain syndrome called IC. Norco 10/325 prescribed for bad wreck & then a surgery on Aug 24th. Well, as of Aug 24th, day of surgery was my last Oxycotin & oxycodone my choice. I've been tellin my Dr its no longer working & want off completely for over a yr! He doesn't listen & keeps writing the script but I've decided no more but bc my body is physically dependent. Have been doing very well not taking the rest of the bottle, gave them to my husband so no temptations. Anyway, now these Norcos, different story. I've been addicted for many yrs like I said but the Norco gives me a high I never thought I could have again bc my tolerance is very high. Have been taking them a little over a yr. But since of the Oxycotin & taking Norco its maybe helped my heavy WD's but now i have 2 left after about 7-9 a day, I have 2 & I'm DONE. I see ppls stories & all the wonderful support from here & thought I'd give it a try. I do have a question tho. I also take valiums 10mg up to 3 a day for pain/anxiety. Have anxiety problems. But I am going to try the Thomas Recipe & would like to know if the valiums would interfere or if there is a part of that recipe I SHOULD NOT take?? I look forward to everyones help & advice. After almost 10 yrs of worrying if I have enough for the month, the crappy feeling & the side effects such as blurry vision, numb/tingly fingers & toes since May 2010, bc of the Oxycotin(found thru research & my Gastro's opinion) I'm just sick of these feelings. Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. And I go back to work Sept. 20th so I figure I have the time now.. thanks!  :)

Checking in...End of day 2... Not too bad. Having chills, hot & cold, have been fully clothed then next few mins I'm stripping back to a tank... Bathed awhile. Then using hyland for the RLS , works pretty good. But having a real runny nose from the flu-like symptoms. Takin ibupr for my achiness. Got some bananas & vit. C today, my husband did anyways & some melatonin. Thankful I'm not need rite now my valium bc not having anxieties. Thankfully my husband made me even laugh some today. All in all I'm doing not as bad as expected. Been in bed pretty much a couple of days to sweat this stuff out & try to rest. Thanks for everyones support & I'll keep posting.  :)

Um, no I was referring to the norco's. be careful quitting them ct. They can cause adverse reactions besides the typical wd's if you quit from too high a dose. They recommend you taper first.

It's good you have your hubby around to keep an eye on you, hope it all goes well.

Gnarly , Thx so much for ur kind words. And everything u have said makes a lot of sense. I love ur saying, well said!! I know I haven't hit the hardest part but man is it really starting. I have most things to help but my husband will go out & get the hylands for my legs cramps. Thankfully, he's a wonderful supporter & will do what it takes to help me stay off this crap. We've been married 9 yrs together for 10 & being a pill head is how he's ever known me as. So I'm looking forward to him seeing the REAL me the part he never really met.  :). Thx for all of everyones support here. And I will continue to post my progress day by day.

Thanks for that info, I had no idea but my Dr did always tell me NOT to take them together so i never have. But I have been on Valiums for  longer period for anxiety disorder. They say they are addictive but to m they are not bc of course I never got a "high" from them. I just take them at bedtime to help me sleep or if needed which isn't very often. The numbness/tingly feeling I described ubove to littlebit667. And more that may answer your question here. But yes Norco is highly addictive that I know. I do not plan on going off the valium if that is what you were asking. Thanks for your info, it was very informative. Hope you are doing well. :)

Im sorry to hear about your health condiyion and wish you the best. With the Oxycotin, my honesty gets me no where, he says your ok because mentally im not addicted, But sometimes I wanted to have a high so I'd take maybe 1 extra a month  but bc of my tolerance it does nothing but most of all I don't need it bc it doesn't work anymore but he keeps writing to make his cut I guess. ($$) The past 6 years I've been to the ER about 5-6 times bc I would go numb like a stroke but never had one. So last memorial weekend my ENTIRE body head to toe went numb I ended up in the ER once again and they ran a bunch of tests and found nothing so they give me a conditon of Paresthesia. So after the numbness finally went away after 2 weeks now my fingers, toes and lips stay numb/tingly everyday since June 2010 and this never stops! I've had EVERY nerve test, nothing!! I've also went from 148 lbs to 112 lbs in 3 weeks as that happened. I've bee to my gastro and had every test, still nothing and all of my blood work comes out good, so all in all I'm healthy!! Go figure, i don't know how. I've even been referred out of town drs. and they find nothing either. So I'm a mystery here! lol.. But I did do some research on Paresthesia and on Oxycotin, well all the symptoms I've got are all associated came be caused by side effects of Oxycotin. So I went off them cold turkey as of Aug 24th and I still have some and I don't crave them mentally as I do Norco's. But I am on day 1 of CT and want to keep it this was and just deal bc I am really hoping that the numbness will go away eventually.I did do the taper from 120 mg of oxycotin to 10mg which took a while but I did it. Now I just need to work on this day 1 of no more Norco and I made sure I don't have them any longer. So I hope to get thru. I've got the cloudy head feeling, achiness, blurry vision but its worse without the Oxycotin but thats ok bc I can do this. Thanks for your story and I wish you well on day 5, thats wonderful!!  :)

Considering Valium is a benzodiazepine, It's no wonder you had blurry vision, tingly fingers and toes. Opiates and benzo's are a bad combo that causes cardio-respiratory depression up to and including involuntary AND voluntary failure. More so with the hydrocodone than oxy.

Norco's (hydrocodone) is a highly addictive opiate derivative, one of the more difficult ones to quit.

I didn't see you mention it, but you should taper slowly off those before stopping them, or they can cause  adverse reactions besides the usual wd symptoms.

Usually our bodies respond pretty good to the healthy supplements we start feeding it, sure beats what we were giving it.  I still take my EsterC,B-6 and B-12.  Hope you are feeling somewhat better tonight~~sara

I am a  60 year old woman with a few medical issues...restless leg, diabetes in control due to weight loss (no problems and no meds..blood sugars normal), beginnings of COPD.  A back that has made dropped me to my knees over the years...crawling to the bathroom, wanting to die to make the pain end.  I say these things to let you know that so far the Thomas Recipe has not bothered me.  I did a lot of research on the various components before I started to detox myself when I went off cold turkey.  Having said this, I think checking with your doctor is the best thing.  What they may say, is it won't work, but nothing will hurt you.  Who cares if they say it won't work?  I am here to say it might and worth it as long as your dr. says OK.  I felt I could not go to my doctor...for various reasons and was willing to take the chance.  But, since you seem to have a more honest relationship with them it is definitely something I would do first.  I hope I am making sense and wish you good luck.  I am in day 5 of cold turkey.  Would I have made that choice...no..if I could have tapered I would have.  Human nature is a *****.

I'm having just a little but nothing that ibupro can't help. Yes I already have the flu like restless legs feeling. I know ALL these symptoms all to well just never went longer than 2-3 days & that was only bc I ran out. But I wasn't mind set & ready then either. But I surely am now, been for a while just needed to set my mind to it & I know what's coming by past feelings & by reading lots of the posts here. This is a very helpful place to be. I hate having trouble sleeping but I'm gonna go try bc like I said I know what's coming. Ughh.. I'll definetly stay close bc I will be gratefully for the support. Ur support is already great just knowing someone is here when u need them. As well as my husband of course lol. Thanks again Sarah & I will keep in touch. Have a good nite/morning...

Thanks for replying back. I will continue with the valium bc that's never been a problem. I usually just take mostly at bedtime to help sleep or if I need it for anxiety at work which is not often. I ALWAYS have @ 30 or so left out of 90 at refill date. But I'm going to do this cold turkey bc I know I can bc I need to for my health. I'm 38 always been pretty healthy just this addiction has taken over & I want off. I will ask my pharmacist if he knows of the Thomas Recipe & see if it will interfere. But I don't have high blood pressure, its actually low. Always gas been. Thx ;)

Hi and welcome~~

I would talk with your doctor about the thomas recipe or even the pharmacist.  They will be able to give you the best advice about this.  Are you thinking of coming off the valium too?
