my mom has a pill addiction

My mom has a pill addiction and will not admit to it. She is admitted to the hospital bout everyother month due to taking too many pain pills and or nerve pills. She is 58 years old and in the past year there has been every test known to man kind. This is starting to happen more frequently now and is starting to purchase pills off of the street, even asking her grandchildren to find some for her. The Doctor even told us if she continues to do this that it may be too late one day. My mom will not admit she has an addiction and i need to know if we, as me and my siblings, can have our mother admitted to rehab before its too late, against her will. Because she isnt going to go on her own.

Does the hospital she goes to have an NA panel that comes in??I too suggest that maybe for you that you attend an Nar anon meeting it is for people with addicted  family members. As for her dr what is the matter with him or her??? Suggestion maybe  talk to dr and find out why he or she is still prescribing her meds..... As for the rehab I believe that ProdicalGirl explained it very nice. Best of luck I know what it is like cause I did it to my family members and it is such a terrible disease. They all had to let me go to hit my bottom and that is what saved my life is them not enabling me and then of course I started missing my family, at first I was relieved needless to say that I could use without them bothering me but when all of a sudden I was completely alone and I knew that the phone wasn't going to ring what a terrible place to be and that helped me WANTING help. God bless.

Can I wek if she was admitted to the psych ward after being evaulated on the medical floor first after every attempt? She sounds like she is in dire need of help as well as your family for support. You CANNOT have your mom admitted to rehab, only a court order can do this. She sounds really deep into addictio if she is so desperate to ask her grandchildren for help in buying pills. Sad :( Does she get these pills prescribed to her from a doctor and then buy more? If most of her pills are prescribed call her doctor(unless he is the one who informed you of the inevitable fate) and tell him about her problem if he does not know she has been hospitalized. You can also take it a step further and call her insurance company and  or pharmacy to put her on a "watch list" to see if she is doctor shopping. Try anything. Never give up. Have an intervention and make sure you have a rehab ready for her to go to when you do this. Tell her she will never see her family until she strightens up. Best of luck and keep us informed. Maybe these tactics will have her hit rock bottom. In the meantime go to a naranon meeting. These meetings are for family members of addicts. They give awesome support which ya'll need and may have great ideas for your family since they have been there already. I will pray for your family and mom. Addiction is a horrible disease. It overpowers you. You think of nothing else except the next fix. She can't think clearly for herself so you did the right thing by posting on here. You can come back and visit anytime and we all mean that. I just joined, but after reading, these people seem awesome and I know they will support my journey through sobriety.
