nails are becoming dark

iam 32, male, iam a chain smoker ,smoking for past 10 years. now iam realising that my nails are be coming darker, dont know why? i thought  may be because of smoking, i dont drink but, pl help me out with this question.

i have smoked about 30 years. i have had my nails get darker on me. went to the doc and she said i had a nail fungus. she gave me a prescription that i took for about 90 days, and they are back to normal. not sure if you have the same, but thought i would share. bestof luck
