I am so sorry to hear of your pain. I have a protrucing disc that they will not operate on because of the degeneration above and below the bad disc. So what happens now? They have me on 40mg 3 times daily and 15mg for breakthrough. I,ve been doing this for 6 months now.
I had to change doctors to get help. My perfered md would give me nothing more that 10 mg prn and only expected me to take 2 a day. With that dosage which never helped much in the first place, I was in miserable pain, I'm talking a 10, couldn't walk, sleep, focus nothing, I was totally ingrossed with this pain. Results: FIRED FROM JOB OF 6 YEARS! 13 BUCKS AN HOUR!! Geez.
So now I find the other md and I am getting the prolo-therapy injections(well worth the expense) and it has really helped as far as the excruciating pain. Most days I only need 2-40's and maybe a 15. Now this dosage makes the pain tolerable. The pain is always there. I don't get all messed up on these. I would be in big trouble with the hubby.
I also have HepC. I had a decision to make, quantity of life vs quality. I choose the quality. 3 kids and 7 grandbabies.
If you are in pain because of an injury or paralisys and you have done everything humanly possible to rid yourself of pain. Then I would not be concerned about having to take meds because of it.
Don't let anyone give you a hard time because you take pain meds.
My husband has experienced the before and after. He doesn't fully approve because of the hepc, but he is supportive and is happy his wife can stand long enough to start dinner or dishes all the things I couldn't do before the pain meds.
If you feel you don't need the meds and are just taking them because, then yes you should get off them.
Here's to hope,
God bless you,

good luck, hope you feel better soon
Hi. I sure feel for you. My addiction to vicodin was basically for the high and the power and engery I felt from them. I never needed them for pain really (only after a carpal tunnel surgery), so I feel for the people that really need these things to exist daily. I'll be thinking about you and hope things turn out for you for whatver you end of doing/trying. Your not alone, be strong, have faith and you will prevail.
UNFORTUNLEY IM NOT SO INNOCENT...FROM 17-20 I USED THEM ALSO TO GET HIGH.BIG MISTAKE B\C I STILL CARRY THT CRAVE STILL GO WELL OVER THE LIMIT SO I CARRY TRU PHYS. PAIN AND A ADDIC. TO BOOT THNKZ 4 COMMENT
YOUR ACKNOWLEGMENT\REPLY IS TRULLY APPRICIATED.
Have they tried anything like neurontin for the phantom pain? I think Lyrica is another one out there now. It's unfortunate when one has constant pain. You need something to take the edge off so you can function but the fear of the actual pain is terrible so you end up taking more. Especially when your body becomes accustomed to the prescribed dose and it quits working. Good luck to you. I hope they are able to find some way to help you.
Well you might not be so innocent, but at least your honest! I know I have a totally new outlook on addiction and people who are addicted. I understood alcoholism because I have seen and lived it with my dad, god rest his soul, but I used to think if people just wanted to quit pills, they would but they just don't want to. Wish I didn't have to go through it myself to have come to that understanding, but no matter how I got there I did and now I feel for all of us. Thanks again for your honesty.
