opiate acute w/drawal still 3+ months later?

After over 4 years of MMT,tapering down and switching to suboxone for 2 months (with a somewhat fast taper), my son still has physical withdrawal symptoms daily after 3 months of NO opiates!  He is very frustrated, to say the least.  We can not find any info about this or what to expect or do about it. We are beginning to explore alternative medical ideas.  He is afraid that his brain is permanently damaged and that he will have to return to MMT in order to function.  Does anyone know anything about this situation?

After four years on MMT he could very well be having withdrawals......did the treatment Doc even mention that sub is a very powerful narcotic?  And that complete methadone withdraw sometimes takes 6--12 months?  The sub just kept the methadone at bay since it is also a narcotic..............methadone may be stored in bone and fat and be released gradually for a while after detox.  And 10% of druggies dont ruin their brains......they are generally dopamine deficient (a "feel good") natural substance. These will regenerate with abstinence....although possibly at less than 100% ......

He def needs to be checked by a doctor to make sure there is nonthing else going on.  Unfortantly (sorry my spelling *****) about 10% of people that abuse opiates ruin there brain. Meaning it will never regenrate what it takes to kill pain naturally. Those 10% of people have to stay on MMT or other form of treatment forever.  Sorry to tell you this  Hope he is not one of the 10%.  He needs to go to the doctor and have tests run asap.

There is something called PAWS that occurs after the inital withdrawl phase. You can read it in the health pages in the upper right corner of this site. I too am over 3 months clean and still struggling. I think it just takes longer for some than others. I hope your son starts feeling better.
