Whatever you do don't do what I did. I thought like an addict and wasn't about to go get my Sub in any state of detox. Shot about 120mg. of Morphine sulphate a couple hours before receiving my script and by the time I took my first dose under my tongue. I was having the worse withdrawals. They aren't kidding when they say, you'd better be in some kind of detox when you start the Suboxone. Otherwise you're in for it. That was three days ago and I feel fine, taking my two and a half doses dailey. Just have to make sure I don't take too many and run out before my next appt.
Be careful and don't use for at least 12 hours before taking Sub. You'll be sorry if you use you opiate, then take the Sub. You'll be so sick......
Hey everybody,
Im switching from 30 mg oxycodone to suboxone. How many hours do I have to wait before taking the sub. Ive had the subs for a couple weeks but don't think I could make it more than 24 hrs without using but on the otherhand Ive heard the horrors of precipited wd's.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!
Tell me about it. I had no choice, because I didn't have the money for the doctor's appointment or the script. If I had the means, my butt would have been in there at the earliest possible time. I'm glad in a way that I waited that long, though, because we were absolutely sure that the Sub wouldn't fight with the opiates in my system, and could only make me feel better. I'm about to post a new topic describing exactly what it felt like after that first dose of the Suboxone, for anyone else who is thinking of trying it. Actually, I did "feel" it, because I felt so crappy for three days, that taking the Sub felt almost like taking the Vicodin again. The body aches and pains went away, and I had a euphoric feeling all night. That makes me worry, however, about when the time comes to get off of it. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, I am going to meetings and some counseling to get to the underlying causes, so maybe it won't be that bad. Thanks!
wow...3 days was totally uneccessary hun...12-18 hours is what is recommended for short acting opiods...oh well i am glad you made it to where you are now...thats great!! i hope you arent expecting to "FEEL" the sub...you wont...but you will jut feel some normalcy...another success in the makeing? good luck hun...if you have any question just give someone here a shout....
Thanks everyone for your support!
The Dr. never said a specific time, but I researched beforehand, and found that I had to be in "mild to moderate" withdrawal. It's been 3 days since my last dose, so when I went in today, she said that was perfect. Lord knows I have done my share of suffering for this. Two horrible work days, and two sleepless nights. And I am transitioning from Hydrocodone, about 6 mg. per day, split up, and I've been on it about a year. I just took my first Suboxone dose, they are the 8mg, but I only took half for the first time to see if I feel better with that. I'm so excited to feel the effects, and a little nervous that there won't be any relief at all. If I feel good enough in a few hours, I am hitting my first NA meeting!
Look at the bright side, you're starting a new job so if you're acting "weird" at all they'll just assume it's because you're shy or nervous. :-). Then when you're feeling better from the sub they'll think "wow, who is this superwoman?". And hopefully give you a big corner office, huge raise and company car right? Seriously though, I started sub from vicodin and waited maybe 12 hours (can't remember but I know it was much less than recommended). My dr's nurse screwed up and when I asked her if I should stop taking my vicodin she said "no, he doesn't want you to stop anything you're doing". So he was surprised when I showed up and told him I had popped some while waiting for him to come in the room. Anyway, he sent me home with a script and had me dose the 1st time at home. Like I said, I wasn't even to the point of nausea or anything. Just stretchy and icky feeling. BUT I don't recommend you test it. I've heard that precipiated w/d's suck big time. I'm just telling you my experience so you don't stress out too much.
The transition, for me, was nothing less than wonderful. One minute you feel like you're doomed, the next, you feel better than good.
oh... and there are quite a few success stories on here who took or continue to take sub...you wont be sorry, i hope you arent transitioning from methadone...that CAN be a tough transition, but not in every case...
first of all..how many hours is your doctor requiring you to be in withdrawals for before he will give you your first dose of sub?
and to answer your question..it really depends on what drug you are transitioning from and the dose you were on and how long you have been addicted...shed a little more light on your back ground and it maybe be easier to get a closer description to what you may experience...
Stacy there are three different stages of W/Ds thank god it sounds like your in stage one........
I hope you make it through the day tomorrows work day and get on your Suboxone........
Once you start on the Suboxone you will be able to work no problem...........
tough it out..........ok
