is the all over body itching normal when detoxing?

I am trying to get my son off of a mixture of pain meds he has been using for the past 3 years due to a back injury (in the beginng). We are in day 1 and he has been itching and jerking violently.  Finally got him showered and asleep for last 2 hours..... what else will come?

Hello mom and welcome. It is ok to stop the loratab, opiates suddenly
( cold turkey). But the Valium, xanax they are benzos it is dangerous to stop
Those cold turkey.
The incoherant, not making sense, blacking out, jerking which could also be
Seizures could very we'll be from the benzos withdrawal.
He needs to be completely honest about how much benzos he was using.
That should be tapered down before he completely stops.

Most importantly, be supportive and understanding. Let him know a lot of people experiment with drugs and you'll help him while he gets on the right path. He many not want to hear this, but the "friends' he has are destructive! I never had pain issues, never had a a pain med script, my "friends" supplied me for years with pills, until I got to the point I was buying off the street.

We aren't all junkies as portrayed on TV. I'm an highly educated female, with a great job, healthy child, loving family....I took the wrong path while experimenting and it's taken 10 years to start to straighten out.

Thank you♥ I pray he is ready for this, and I will be there with him.  You don't know how much your advice helps.

He'll be going through the toughest part of withdrawals for about 4 days. If you can get him up and walking around and lots of healthy foods and water, he'll feel better faster.

I hope you can keep him off this track, Lord know so many of us wish our parents would have intervened early in the addiction and we would be here right now. Keep up updated, and contact a doctor is he gets real lethargic, like you can't understand him speaking, goes in a deep sleep, dizzy, eyes sinking, etc. He could dehydrate or the meds could be interacting.

If his withdrawals are that intense, he may have been using more than he is telling you. How old is he?

Let him know you are trying to help him, and you need him to be honest. Don't criticize or get angry. He is vulnerable and will be emotional for a few weeks or months. Be supportive, and just ask how you can help.

This is advice from someone who has gone through 5 hyrdo, vic, loratab withdrawls alone. He is lucky to have you by his side.

Just me...at home.  loratabs, zan-x (??? spelling) he has been taking anything his friends can supply.  Sometimes up to 5- 10mg per day of just the loratabs.

There a lot of people on here who have detoxed and all of our experiences are different. What pains, and how many was he on.

The jerking and twitching sound normal. I haven't heard many reports of itching, but everyone is completely different. Hot epson salt baths, lots of liquids, and you many want to get some immodium, is stomach will be acting up soon.

Have he followed up with a doctor or ya'll just doing this at home?
