Hey there. Normal PAWS you're going through (Post Acut Withdrawl Symptoms). Get some Immodium and Gatodade to stave off dehydration. Try some Aleve for any headcahes/bodyaches you may have coming your way. Congratualations on 23 hours!!! You can do this....yes,it will be tough and suck I won't lie. But the other side is so much more beautiful...,hang in there. Post when you crave, read the health pages. Start a tracker so you can visually see your progress. So much is out there-try to utilize as much as you can. Hang in there!!Stay strong and keep your guard up!!~A

yes the gyn knows.  I had my script and had been doing good.  Taking some days and not the other.  But when i did take them i would take too much.  then my son came over and while i was sleeping he took them and left.  Now i have nothing and having withdrawals.  My mom gave me 4.  I have some for tomorrow.  She will probably help me til i can see the pain mgmt doc.  I dont want to go on something stronger.  I want to be able to take what i am supposed too.  whem my mom had them, she gave me only 3 days at at time and i did good.  May be if i tell him that bc he knows my mom well, he will do that if he talks to her.

Hi, doghound---
I saw your post to me about my advice for her to dole what she gets from her mama out vs. going cold turkey or just taking Tylenol. I agree with you 100% that she should take her regular opiate/acetaminophen pills--but I don't think she has any to take other than the four she got from her mother. I just posted to her a second ago to get more info so I understand the situation better. And yes, if she has nausea, vomiting, dehydration, or diarrhea, they won't operate anyway. I had a hysterectomy back in 1992, and your bowels had to be totally empty because of the risk of infection if they nicked the bowel during surgery. (I had the abdominal incision type--don't know what type our friend is having.) So no, she can't have diarrhea or anything that messes up electrolytes. Back in a little while.

Hi again--
I saw that you said you didn't want to tell your pain management doctor. Could you fill us in a little bit? When was the last script written for your pain pills, and how fast did you go through them? Are you waiting for a refill because you took too many? If so, how many days away is it?
So you are saying that your pain doctor doesn't know you are going to have surgery, and your GYN doctor doesn't know you are on pain management? Why do you not want them to know about each other? Are you afraid that one or both will stop your pills?
Do you want to quit but are so frightened about withdrawal that you need some "insurance" (having a script ready just in case)? Do you know what you are going to talk to your GYN about tomorrow? I am not trying to be nosy--it helps for you to give us as much info as possible so we understand exactly where you're coming from.
I'm going out for a little while; when I come back I'll look for you. Hang in there!

Hi, and welcome. I'm sorry it has to be under these circumstances, but I am glad to meet you all the same.
Okay, so you will have four pills from Mama? You'll have to half them and take one a day whenever you are most desperate---or quit cold turkey if you cannot control yourself doling them out. You need to restore some of your body's sensitivity to narcotics before your surgery in a few days. You really don't have enough time to do that, but try hard to take nothing. Your surgery is going to require some narcotics immediately postop at the very least. And because you have built up a big tolerance to opiates, you will require a higher dose just to get by, much less get sleepy or bombed. Does your GYN know that you are on pain management? He/she is going to be worried when he gives you standard pain medications in the hospital and it doesn't comfort you!
Your case is a little different from most because of your upcoming surgery. The only thing you can take for pain this week will be Tylenol. No ibuprofen or Aleve because they cause blood thinning, which would be exceedingly dangerous for you with the surgery.
Do take a multivitamin/multimineral supplement all week, too, to build you up a little.
Have you told your GYN anything at all about your situation? He/she might even want to postpone the surgery for a little while until you have quit your narcotics. At the very least, your GYN and pain management doctors need to talk to each other.
Please keep us posted! Hang in there, we are rooting for you!

i know that in my brain.  but it seems like when i take them i can focus.  I know that is the drug telling me that.  I am a smart person and I think most of this is just in my head,  when my mom was doling them out to me, i did just fine.  but when i have them i have no self control.  feel like a total loser

I was just watching a show that had said a great comment. "Where there is breathing, there is hope".

And I found this one I read daily.

"The truth is that our finest moments are most likely to occur when we are feeling deeply uncomfortable, unhappy, or unfulfilled. For it is only in such moments, propelled by our discomfort, that we are likely to step out of our ruts and start searching for different ways or truer answers."

I know it's so hard for you right now. Just know that there are people here to help you through. Have you thought about talking to your doctor and asking for help? You wouldn't have to go inpatient. But at least he can perscribe you some things that may make this a little easier for you.

I just came to check on everyone and saw my username..and thought, what the heck? Am I losin' it alogether? lol

Anyway, the only thing you can do is talk with your Dr. let him know your concerns about your addiciton. Hysterectomy can be pretty painful. You just have to take it slow. The first step is recognising you have a problem..and that you want help..I wish you well,

Let them know in the hospital you don't want any opiates. There is enough stuff out there for pain that is non-opiate based-they can do something for you. Hang in there..be strong. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it but for now, take it 1 day/hour at a time. Otherwise you will drive yourself crazy and start having anxiety attacks.Hang in there!!~Anne

It's withdrawal you're experiencing.

Are you planning to quit for good?
