some one please help me figure this out

i need to know if anyone here has ever heard of taking antihistimines<-"sp?" with percocets before, my husband has recently confided in me that he has a pill addiction, we are trying to find the best way to get him help, however we have no insurance and he is currently the only working parent, anyway, i found a bottle that had a percocet and a generic claritin, i didn't know if this was something to be even more specifically worried about than the percocet addiction, he snorts the pain pills, i don't know if he is taking the claritins at all, or how he is taking them if he is, but my thought was if he is taking these pain pills to get high and it is not as effective as it used to be, is he perhaps now taking them with the claritins to increase the effects, or do they some how make snorting more effective, i don't know i am at a loss here and i was hoping some one would know, i have lost so many friends in my life to perscription pill overdose, i do not want to lose my husband too, i just need to know how bad this really is before i figure out what to do, he says he is taking 10mg percocets, and or endocets, 0-8x's a day depending on his physical or mental pain levels, some times he says he goes 3-4days with out one, other day's he takes as many as 8, he may be over or under exaggerating these numbers i can't imagine he is being 100% honest with me about this, but perhaps he is, according to him this has been going on for at least 3mo, i know he needs help and we will figure that out, right now i would like some cold hard ugly truth about the amounts and methods that i am giving you that he has shared with me, also please feel free to email me if you do not wish to talk publicly about this ***@****

I know there are two kinds of claratin both r otc but one requires you showing your id because of the amphetamine content. your guy might be using it as an upper to counter the downer effect of the opiates. If that is the case it can get very dangerous, like a poor men speed balling (thats what killed John Belushi and Chris Farley ) or kiddy speedball as they call it.
i hope this info is helpful to you, good luck to the both of you

i just want to make sure that when I say "don't let this become your problem" I don't mean it in the way it first sounds. Of course this effects you and everyone around him. I just mean please don't put the responsibility of his willingness to get help onto yourself because only he can get the help he needs.

I read this forum alot but am not an addict myself. My natural parents are so I like to read others experiences hoping to understand on a more emotional level to what they may be going through.

Anyway, I wanted to answer your question because this is exactly what my mother used to do when she wanted to save money. She would get a script of an antihistimne either OTC or something that needs to be prescribed and take it with her pills because they can increase the effects. It's dangerous to do because it makes the pills release faster and differently and can cause resp, depression.

I can hear the worry in your voice and hope you can help him get the help he needs. But with losing so many of those you love to addiction of course you know that he won't be open to recieving help unless he truely desires it. And you said it yourself, you know he's not being 100% honest with you. Even of there is no reason to lie to the person, lying becomes second nature to be able to keep up a DOC and the means to get it. Shame and pride also can play a huge part in addiction and someone may be too embarassed to be honest about how much they're taking or feel they don't need help and can control it so someone doesn't need to know how much they take. There are buckets of reasons someone can have for not wanting to be honest about it.

I can really understand what you must be feeling right now. I know I will never truely know how much my natural parents use and even exactly the way they use it now. My mother still says she doesn't have a problem after 40 years of using.

I wish you all the best and health. PLease don't let his problem become your problem in the way that you feel responsible for getting him better. Only he can do that.

I'm sure you will get better advice than mine since I'm speaking from expereince as a loved one and not experience with addiction personlly. I hope no one minds my posting here not being an addict myself.
