Addiction question

Hello:)

I have been 203 days clean from Tramadol, and I have only ever had a problem with Tramadol, no other painkiller problem.

I tore my meniscus last week and have been icing and taking Ibuprofen and Tylenol every 8 hours...still no relief.
I am waiting for my MRI appointment to see what we can do. In the meantime, I have been to my regular (new) doctor because I am in so much pain and she just sends me home and tells me to keep doing what I am doing.

My addiction happened and was documented at another hospital in town. Well after all that happened, I switched back to my main hospital. The only reason I switched was because I wanted to experience labor and delivery with a new doc and hospital, but was disappointed so that is why I am switching back. Anyway, Can my new doctor at another hospital see my record and maybe that is why she isn't prescribing me anything stronger for the pain? My two kids also go to her and she has never said anything to me about my past addiction. I really am in legitimate pain here, will I ever be prescribed something again?

I do not know if it is the same in every state, but in Nebraska ALL hospitals share information about you.  If someone even tries to go to 1 hospital and get meds and then goes to a different hospital they will be flagged as 'doctor shopping'.  If there is any possible way for you to avoid opiates try to do so as it is a beast.  I totally understand that sometimes opiates are the only thing that will ease the pain, but only use them for a very short time.  good luck

Hi Kylie - like you i have the knee issues.  In fact i have very little to no cartilage  (Meniscus) in my left knee any longer.  Its been replaced by osteoarthritis...lucky me.

Anyway i agree with IBK to wait for the MRI.  If a tear depending on location you may have arthroscopic surgery or simply get physical therapy. Continue with the ibuprofen (Advil) as it reduces (or tries to) the swelling...which is what "really" causes the pain.  I've been through 12 knee surgeries (all left knee) and ice & elevation were the best thing, gotta keep the swelling down.

Each person is different but i never needed drugs after arthroscopic surgery and they will really encourage you to be up & moving in 3 days. Ice & elevation...more ice & elevation. good luck.

I am going to have to Ditto with IBK..Just because WE think it was not are DOC does not mean we have Any control over a mind altering drug these days. BUT if you are in so much pain in the future you know the drill..Give them to someone to hand them out and only for a short time.
All the info can be brought up on a computer these days. They might not know about your Addiction, then they might!!! But thank your God that they are looking out for you in that way. Be Safe!
Bless

What they can see is when you last were prescribed pain medication. She is probably waiting for your MRI appointment to discuss the options. Please don't be fooled into thinking that you are only addicted to Tramadol. Any opiate will send you back into active addiction if abused. Try and rest until your appointment. Hopefully they find a way to repair the problem without opiates.
