MH messaged me requesting a pick for best answer. I really wasn't done with this thread, (Everyone that suggested exercize was the best answers, and i agree that a dr's checkup needs done on all of us after quitting and hitting midlife) i was wanting more input on how to get motivated to exercize, mind the heat. I got my garden stuff all planted, now my thighs and back won't even let me squat, so it'll be awhile for exercize. Connie calling me out on my current battle with booze in public was also good.
Love you all,
Buddy
i see i masacured part of that post. i meant 'cominig to this website, hoping to find wisdom and humor is the first thing i do when getting around in the morning'.
rock on water, we either make it to the other side or sink. only two ways a rock crosses a river, completely clears it the first time or has to skip along the surface. Non addicts just quit and fly over. Addicts skip in and out of the water till they make it, unless they sink.
Now, back to, HOW TO START THE DAY, and get moving!
A customer knocked on our front door awhile ago while we were still gettin dressed. Here i sit tremors, everything is still hurting bad and fades after waking up more, with my first cup and cig, eyes are blurry. I'm not proud of my 13 days at all. This is the 4th time i've hit 2 weeks in 3 months. I feel like a rock skipping on top of the water. today is this owl and larks 27th, i can't screw up today. I seen a couple other relaspers posted today, i hope they catch my rock on water analogy.
Exercize is the best answer so far, along with Connie's not so subtle suggestion that I get more clean time. The kicker about exercizing to get motivated is the catch 22, I'd already be up and going if i felt like exercizing. I could use input here.
Hopping on this website and finding some humor is the main thing that gets around to, in the morning. To me, humor is the best medicine.
And Sarah, I think I should go have a physical and bloodwork done now that I don't have anything to hide, to see if there is something lacking.
be back soon. thanks
A body in motion stays in motion....I'm up every morning at 5am....it took me some time tho...first I think it was physically hard to force myself out of bed. Because of job.....then kind of mentally challanging...first it was a awful chore...like chopping wood......then it became a habbit. Give yourself some time. Your body is on the mend. Remeber habits take 28 days to make or break.....try to make getting out of bed at a certain hour a rule...then when you achieve a consecutive week...reward yourself...
Make mornings a good thing. Make getting up positive....getting up should be an adventure....see what comes along. Roll with it.
Much congradulations on 12 days......awesome
LOL Vicki ! Seeing an angry bear will probably also achieve the same effect as exercise.
Gotta Joke with this one. I am like the Average Bear in the Winter & then I go and pick and eat my Berries in the Summer. Ha!! This gets my Endorphins going in two different ways. Picking & Eating! Ahhh Just being silly!!
Moose-lips
Hey great job on the 12 days off the booze.
As Bob said exercise ! I think as opiate addicts we are truly cheating ourselves if we do not take advantage of the power of exercise. It provides the endorphins that we evidently crave more than the average bear does. As Bob also said it has been proven that the positive effects of 30-60 minutes of moderate exercise can be felt for more than 24 hours, One thing I do when I want to get up and moving is I will slam the water on cold and jump in the shower and stay there until the cold water feels almost warm .This takes a few minutes to achieve and when I jump out of the shower I am ready to go and my attitude is nowhere near in the same place as it was mere minutes before.
Heres what I do to even WANT to get going in the AM: Being less than one month from my 67th birthday (ha) the best I can do for myself is to get me some daily exercise. Every day I walk 2 miles with 2 dogs. IF, and that's a big if, I get a good nights sleep, I'm good to go in the AM after I elevate my bean count with 2 cups. I'm energetic on yesterday's exercise. I need to walk for my back also. I'm in constant aggravating pain. All I can take is Tylenol at night and an Advil during the day. Now it's windsurfing season and I go when it blow. That's even more exercise. Exercise = a good night's sleep = a good next day filled with the energy to do more exercise. That, 2 cups of coffee and the gratitude that I'm finally clean and sober after a multi-year disaster!
LOL Vic, it took me 2 hours to hit that post button, getting the nerve up to reply to Connie in public. At least I know you, Airily, and myself are sitting here dragging butts in the morning, I've tried to study people i know that roll out and blast off, haven't figured out what it is, several of them have terrible diets, drink, smoke, use drugs more than i ever did.
Oh Connie, 20 yrs without. 6 months heavy, 3 months off and relapsing, today is day 12 without a drink. over 9 months off opiates. I've lost ambition about the same time i stopped drinking everyday. I've even lost the desire to drink, a shot of booze burns my throat, gives me a headache and heartburn.
Sarah, I did lots of suppliments during my winter of drinking, thomas recipe in october, amino acid protocal till around febuary. cal/mag/zinc and a multi vit. Recently backed off everything because of stomach issues. I'm down to coffee and cigs for evil drugs and genuine plain aspirin. This morning after coffee i ate a mango, had a can of tuna on toast w/lettuce for lunch, chef salads for most suppers sometimes soup, rarely cooked/hot meet. Thought fruit, veggies, and canned fish or shrimp diet would help offset not consuming suppliments.
So, how does other ex opiate users get moving in the mornings? How are you guys making it to work on time and putting in full days? As Connie boldly asked and has my respect for doing so, I need help getting my life back, any suggestions or criticizum is ok, I assume most of us are family here on mh and I am not alone.
Hey Sorry. This just made me laugh. I do the same thing. I get up and have a cup of coffee and then eat a bit and take all my Vit/Min. I seem to kick in after a few. Mornings are my worst. I have been working most of my life but have not been for the last 10 months. So I am going to get a morning job so I can have some accountability for my actions and get moving sooner. I wish you the Best.
Are you taking any supplements?
Guess I'm just gonna be bold here.....how many consecutive days do you have totally OFF alcohol?
I am right there with you. Not a morning person. Never have been. I can't do the coffee, make me very anxious. I will be very interested to see what everyone has to offer on this. Hang in there, and know that you are not alone!
How long have you been clean?
It took me awhile to get over the first thing I do is use feelings. I'm at 50+ days and I'd say for the most part it's gone. I need to start exercising first thing. Have you tried that.
Depending on your clean time I'd say give it a little more time. Or if you've been clean awhile maybe it's time to start the day off with a walk or something.
Plus adding a BComplex, some Vitamin Water (Revive), or some of the aminos in the amino acid protocol could help, too. Your nervous system takes the same beating from alcohol as it does from opiates.
But, I gotta tell....from all my years of jawing with different people...seems like "larks" marry "owls"....if ya know what I mean. My hubby is the "lark"..he is ready to unload the dishwasher or tackle the checkbook the minute he wakes up.....Geesh....not ME for sure! Some of it is metabolism, I think, and also brain chemistry. I know FOR SURE since I got clean, I have to allow more time to be up and awake and get my pain under some kinda control before I can just "tackle the world". Ya know?
But, being the curious person I am....just in case you feel like reading these (oh no....here she goes...lol)...here are 5 tips I wrote down (and maybe, just maybe I'll begin to incorporate a few of them myself....so thank you for this post, Buddy!)
1)Hit the sack earlier at night....try to have a regular bedtime.
2)Turn off the snooze for good. If you set a clock, set it for the time you absolutely HAVE to get up. You'll actually wake up more tired by hitting snooze over and over.
3) Use a night light. If you get up during the night to get a drink or go to the bathroom and turn on a bright light....it wakes you up FULLY.
4) Gulp down a big glass of water AS SOON AS you wake up. Your body loses water while you sleep and as little as 2% drop in your body's water level can make you significantly more tired both physically & mentally.
5) Open blinds or drapes in the morning. Sunshine spurs your biological clock into action telling your brain it is time to get going. Drink your coffee and/or read the newspaper on the patio. Soak in some sun. Or better yet, take a brisk morning walk. As your heart gets pumping, you will feel more awake and vivacious.
Vivacious....that's how I wanna be in the mornin!! LOL
Thanks for posting Buddy. I appreciate YOU~
