Help to get off Norco 10

I REALLY want to stop taking pain pills but I'm scared/frightened of the WD's! I have to work and cannot take much time off. Because of my job I am very nervous coming to a doctor to let him know. Any suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
I WANT TO STOP!!!! HELP!

i didn't read what any of the other comments said on this thread, so i apologize if i repeat what others may or may not have said.

i was in your shoes four years ago as well. i needed to get off of the pills for my own health, but also wanted to. i went to my PCP asking for help to get off the pills, and he literally closed the door in my face. so i was stuck. what to do? i either had to go check in somewhere, or tough it out in the comfort of my own living room on the couch. so that is what i did. i went through the WD at home, without the assistance of medication or a doctor. just me, my TV and hot showers every other hour, it seemed like.

tapering isn't for everyone. some people need help getting off the pills by doing this and some go CT like me and many others have. it's up to you in what you feel is best. i know all too well the whole "can't take off from work" ordeal, because that was the situation i was in. believe it or not, i told my boss the truth, and he respected me for it, (not saying this is what you should do, some people just cannot understand addiction) he let me off work for 12 days and i rammed through it.

best of luck to you, and let us know what you decide on!!

You will be ok I promise! Like others have probably said, definitely a multivitamin, lots of water and gatorrade, and easy foods, easy to make, eat and digest! Immodium is your friend! Lots of hot baths, with epsom salts if you have them. Post here alot, you will get lots of support!

Most of us were very afraid when we first decided to quit.  I know I was terrified.  Just know that fear is the worst part of withdrawals.
Let us know when you are ready to quit.  You should get some imodium, gatorade, vitamins, light foods like crackers, soups, mac and cheese.  You know easy stuff to make because you probably won't have a lot of energy or feel like cooking.
Just think of it as having the flu and you can get through it.
We will be happy to help.

just wanted to lend my support!  you can do this....like the above posters said...as long as you don't have any health issues.....you will just feel like you have a bad flu for a few days....you've gotten to day 3....just make up your mind you WILL pass that milestone and keep going after that!  and post as much as you need to on here...this place is great for info and support to help you get thru the worst of it....good luck and keep us updated on your progress!  don't be scared....I was too at first.....then it got better day by day...i went CT from 12 Norco a day.  If you only have a week then you might not have enough time to taper...you would still be going thru WDs anyway...that was my problem, i didn't have enough pills or enough time to taper properly...but the choice is ultimately yours...keep us posted!  :)

You can do this; just make up your mind and go for it!!  You really can get through the physical stuff in an average of 5 days. The mental stuff will take a little longer. Just please make sure if you are going to go CT you get rid of the meds and don't have any resources to get more. That was my biggest downfall after 70 days of clean time.  I, too, worry about my license and I let that affect my aftercare. Focus on being happy and healthy ;-)

I am definitely ready to quit! I am going CT....if I try and tamper down - like I have b/f I will be back in a couple of days to were I was. I have heard that I need to drink a lot of water, take vits, and any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!
This time I am determined to get by day 3 and 4 and 5 and....all the rest! I keep telling myself tomorrow, tomorrow....now I know tomorrow is day! I will keep coming back here and I want to say THANK YOU to everyone posting!!! Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum~
Taperiing works for some peeps....and not for others.  A slow.....taper where you reduce gradually and get comfortable with your dose, and then do it again....works the best....but it takes time (more than a week).
I'm one of those that could NOT taper.....and chose not to drag out the initial acute w/d symptoms.  You said you have gone c/t b4 and caved on day 3.....that's a huge turning point day for most......if you can push thru days 3-5.....you will turn a corner.
As long as you don't have underlying medical conditions that need to be considered.....it is safe to c/t......I used to wonder if I'd die getting off 10 (10 mg) hydros all at once.....haha.....I was told I might "feel" like I'm dying....but it got thru it....and you can, too.
Lots of otc things you can buy, do and take to assist in comforting you thru your initial detox....but their simply isn't a comfortable way to detox from a narcotic.  You can do it......lots of us here have done it.....keep posting and good for you for WANTING to be free~

I am taking 6-7 norco 10 everyday sometimes 8 for 3 maybe 4 years now. I have tried tampering off to 4 or 3 a day then go back to 6-7. I have done cold turkey twice and by day 3 I end up taking some so I can go back to work. With my job I am afraid of telling the doctor because I do not want anyone to know or loose my license.
I really want to stop!!! I have to do it is week because first and foremost - I want to stop and get my life back, second I could take this whole week to get through it.
Does tampering off really work if I stick to it?

if you could give us some more info like ricart said...like what are you taking and how much?   and do you plan to taper or go CT??  maybe your doctor could help you and it's confidential what you tell him.

Hey this is a great place and lots of people have helpful information and tricks to help through detox and make it more tolerable. How much are you taking and what?  I was taking every narc every way of administration and ended up on Heroin because of price and funds.I am almost 8 months clean now and things are good.   This place really helps    If you are honest with yourself you can do this and get your life back on track   Glad you are here!   :)
