stomach problems

I am a 30 year old male and have been addicted to codiene for approx 10 yrs, starting with coproxamol/distalgaesic now i am on a mixture of codydramol 10/500mg at about 50 to 60 daily or cocodamol 30/500mg at 30 to 60 daily or store bought cocodamol 8/500mg at 30 to 60 daily. and when ever i have tried to come off them have suffered severe stomach problems like diahorreah/passing blood and sleepless nights. I have already lost a job through having to constantly run to the toilet.  is there anything you can suggest to ease these symptoms short of speaking with a doctor thank you...

First off, welcome!  Its great to have you with us.  You are taking a lot of acetopinophen (paracetamol).  I too take about that much.  We are both just destroying our liver and kidneys so it's wise for you to reach out and try to get off of this stuff.  The stomach issues you have are all withdrawl related.  With the exception of the blood.  You may just have some hemorrhoids but if you see alot of blood in the toilet when you are done, you need to see a doctor.  Imodium (loperemide, kaopectate, diamode) will stop the diarrhea for you.  You will need to take it pretty continuously for the first few days.  Stay well hydrated also.  The sleepless nights will last a bit longer.  Try something like benadryl, diphenhydramine, melatonin to help.  Eventually sleep will return, but it takes time.

Well the first bathroom disorder is very common when you stop taking the drug. And immodium can help you with that. But----------the blood is not good and you really need to see a doctor about that. I am not sure at all about how to treat internal bleeding or ulcers.

If you are concerned about seeing a doctor because you are addicted to the drug, then try to wean yourself down slowly with the drug. Instead of all at once. It will not be so shocking to your system. Sounds like you should take care of this immediately. Maybe it is a condition that has been going on for some time and the codiene has been masking it because it constipates you while you are taking it.
