I was given Ativan for opiate w/d.  I want to quit taking them.  Is it necessary to taper after taking only 1 to 1 1/2  mgs per day for 3 wks?  What would you do?

From what I've read, Ativan  has one of the shortest 1/2-lives, which makes it more difficult to quit.
Doctors actually  prescribe valium , which has a long 1/2-life, to help taper off of other benzos like Ativan and Xanax.  Right now I don't know if I am still feeling opiate w/d symptoms, or if I'm now feeling benzo w/ds from stopping them too abruptly.  I am such a lightweight!  I've actually broken the damn things down into quarters (requiring micro-surgery) because I'm such a little chicken-****!!

adivan is not as strong as other benzo's but if you have enough i woudl definetly taper...that is not a lot so you should not have too much trouble..
