Hey I had a very similar situation and was on methadone maintenence fore about 2 1/2 years. I was on 167mgs and my job had offered insurance which I thought would be better Bc it was blue cross/blue shield vs. having MA. So I decided to take the ins. My job offered and I might as well have stuck. My foot up my rear end Bc what I failed to look into was what they covered as far as drug and alcohol. They covered absolutely nothing!!, not even any outpatient treatment or counseling services for drug & alcohol. So, needless to say I was leaned down to 90mgs and had to wal Bc there was no more time and I couldn't self pay anymore. I have housing so I don't even pay 400$ a month for rent let alone for methadone maintenance, so I got extremely sick, stated using again and ended up losing my job that I've had for two years and it sucked Bc I started using again. I ended up signing myself into a detox and then followed through with rehabs and a sober house. But it was an awful detox definitely the worst thing I've ever encountered in 7 years of heroin using. But I've heard it's different for everyone. I've heard over a year to get back to normal and be able to sleep again but then I've heard from others 5-6 months. I just think it's very individualized just like our dosages so hang in there Bc once it's out you know it trust me. I started sleeping again about a month ago and i came home from the sober house in May so it took me months but just keep moving forward and stay positive Bc it will get better!!! If you want to talk I'm here. Good luck!!!!

Hi well sleep can be ruff but your only going to prolong you recovery by taking the perks the initial detox takes from 10 days to 2 weeks then it is the energy crash  there is no get out of jail free card here you just have to go threw it we have lots of members who have myself and weaver have recovered weaver gave you some great advise and I second it you need to put some form of aftercare in place I highly recamend N/A it is free meetings are everywhere and it works if your willing to work it the phyical withdrawal s ucks but it is the mental part that will bring you down keep posting for support........Gnarly

You are right, I can't tolerate the mental part. I quit methadone 9/2/14 this is the hardest part. I have no support but this site . I am glad others have support. I feel like I am going crazy . I keep telling myself its the drug not me . But this is hard lonely scare and at times unbearable. If you can get support please use it. I wish I had some. Please take care

You might think about doing some time in aftercare, at least while you go through the mental detox of methadone. It's a pretty long ride for most of us, but really worth it. As your brain receptors refresh and give you full emotions and clarity, it can be pretty intense. I would suggest an addiction therapist at least. Your family being a support is huge, but I found the mental part took so long, I felt like I was putting a burden on my family by thinking and talking about my feelings so much. Just think about it anyway.

Protein Shake, it will likely be hard to eat awhile
Cal/mag/zinc, 4 with breakfast and dinner for cramps/RLS
EmergenC, for electrolytes and some vital vtamins
B12 sublingual, for depression and mental energy
Multi vitamin, out body needs extra to heal
L-tyrosine for energy, especially if you have to work
Epsom salts baths as hit as you can, for RLS and rapid detox

Avoid caffeine, processed food, red meat, refined sugar, only eat whole grains and as healthy as you can for the next few months.

It's a good sign that you didn't feel too bad, until 11mgs, 20mhs is often when people start to really feel the taper. That was a fast taper, But every body is different. By day 5 you will have most the methadone out of your system, that is often the height of withdrawal, lasting a couple weeks, so use the next couple days to get everything you need. Keep posting with any concerns or questions, we will walk through this with you. If you already have 3 years, this could be a blessing in disguise. Each year it gets harder to stop. I did 8 years and got huge tolerance. I like to see people get of methadone sooner than later. Do you have any kind of aftercare?
