Good the doctor knows about it. Do you take them As prescribed?
Ever run out early?
How long have you been on them?
Did you tell the doctor you are tapering down on them?
If you feel withdrawal so does the baby.
You are not a bad person.

First of all, I want you to forgive yourself and rid yourself of the shame. This is a good way to move forward, having wiped your guilt. It does no good to feel guilty about something, but it does do really good to take steps to correct your behavior. Guilt and shame are very common feelings among users, and the do whittle away our self esteem when we return to the very behaviors we feel so guilty for having committed. What you should realize is that you are an addict and that comes along with a whole host of patterned behaviors that ALL of us have followed. So if you're guilty, then so is everyone that has ever suffered from addiction. This means that you are not just a "bad person" but that you are following along that same pattern of a disease called addiction. The means of stopping it is not going to be found in feeling guilty, but rather in utilizing all of the proven tools for recovery.

Don't do it in secret. Tell others in your life about your problem and resolve to become informed about addiction. Use the steps and tools that are already well worn by this community. Read a lot of posts.

I gave birth to my daughter on methadone. The guilt was immense! It kept me in a dark place for a long time and ensured that my self esteem was very low so that I did not want to face who I was drug free. I have since forgiven myself and resolved not to follow that same path, BUT I realized that I can not accomplish that as a one woman, will power army. Instead, I use this site, I go to meetings, I invest in myself in ways that build me up rather than tear me down. I learn as much about addiction as I can to have more power over it.

We can do this. Don't feel guilty, but do make an earnest effort to prevent this in the future.

I wish you and your sweet baby the best
