time for round 3

I've tried and failed at quitting opiates 2 times in the past few months. It seems I always go into it strong willed and sure I'm done. If it was just the physical sickness I think I would have been done the first time. Its the depression that gets me every time. I know what to expect going into it this time so maybe that will be helpful.  I'm just wondering if there are others on here that have been down this road with success and what if anything helped with the depression.  I really want to be done with this!

Hi again,

I just have to comment that if addiction was a matter of willpower there would be no need for this forum and surely drug use would not be at the epidemic proportions that it is in this country.

Getting clean is the easy part. Staying clean takes a lot of work.

As far as the depression..it is normal. Some people go through it for short periods. For some it doesn't go away. There is medication available. I think a way to go would be to see your doctor. Get a good check up, get honest and ask for help. Doctors are so used to seeing this they are in tune with what can be helpful.

I also suggest some form of aftercare. Choose whatever fits you and stick with it.

I wish you the best. Glad you came back.

My problem is I don't have insurance. I really don't know where to turn as far as seeing a doctor.  It seems there would be some kind of service for people wanting to get clean without insurance. Maybe there is and I just don't know about them. I have came clean with my family and they are willing to help.

There are services that will help you. You will have to do the footwork yourself. Start by doing a google search of treatment centers in your area. Or google mental health clinics. Both of them may be able to help or at least point you in the right direction. And stick around here. It does help to talk with others and get their experiences.

Thanks.  I'll check mental health services. Every where I have checked so far keeps trying to get me to do methadone or suboxone. I really don't think that is what I need though.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in this boat.   Hopefully we can all win this.

Glad you are back~
Depression and anxiety are very common after coming off opiates due to decreased levels of seratonin.  There are some great natural ways to deal with depression in our Health Pages at the bottom of this page.  The Thomas Recipe (re-posted version w/o valium) AND the Amino Acid Protocol both have helpful information and loaded with good information.
Just be sure to read that if you are already taking an antidepressant....you cannot safely take some of the natural supplements mentioned.
I have found Sam-E to be quite beneficial myself.....and others that used L-Tyrosine and some of the other amino acids benefited greatly as well.

I read that you have shared your addiction with your family...KUDOS to you for that!  Have you also insured your success by cutting off ALL sources for pills?  Your head will talk to you unceasingly if this safety net isn't eliminated.  All it takes is one weak moment...if the "connect" has been disconnected......success is possible.
I read in your other thread that you had an addiction therapist at one time; maybe you can continue with that (most dr's and mental health faciclities have a sliding scale they use for those with no insurance) and add some type of aftercare that's free like NA/AA, Celebrate Recovery, Small Groups, CBT Therapy or whatever suits you.
I would stay far away from methadone AND suboxone for your pill habit.  If you cut your sources, have shared your secret, and get some support....a new life free of addiction insanity awaits you.
I wish you well~

Thank you clean in ks!   I haven't set up an appointment with my addiction therapist yet. Kind of want to get through the physical wds before I start back at the recovery groups and one on one.  I am thinking of changing my phone number and giving my new phone to my gf as kind of an extra safety net. Im going to detox at my parents so I won't be have to be around my kids while I'm in the first part of wds.  I just want to take every precaution to help me be successful this time.

And what is sam-e?  Supplement?

Your "extra safety net" sounds MARVELOUS!!!

Both Health Page articles I referenced above speak of Sam-E....you can learn a little about it from reading both those articles, in particular this one:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Addiction/Amino-Acid-Protocol/show/15?cid=66

You can also "bing" or "google" Sam-E and learn all about it's multiple benefits.
