Sammy,

You are me 49 days ago. Detox centers wouldn't take me. They thought it was a joke that I was 'addicted' to tramadol. As you know this is NO JOKE. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling right now. I really went through this by help from my friend who is a pharmacist. He helped put me on a good plan to wean off. I really want to help you so here is what I did:

First I told my closest family/friends. This was the hardest part, to come clean about what I was doing. I was on average taking 12-18 50 mg pills a day. I was taking so much I was starting to have panic attacks that I would have a seizure.

The wean of plan was taking 600 mgs a day for 3 days. Then weaning off 50 mgs every 3 days. I would spread my doses out throughout the day.

Day 1-3      600 mgs
Day 4-6      550 mgs
Day 7-9      500 mgs
Day 10-12   450 mgs
Day 13-15   400 mgs
Day 16-18   350 mgs
Day 19-21   300 mgs
Day 22-24   250 mgs
Day 25-27   200 mgs
Day 28-30   150 mgs
Day 31-33   100 mgs
Day 34-36    50 mgs
Day 37-39    25 mgs

If you follow this schedule you should have the minimum withdrawals and esp. because you have a child, the less suffering the better. I will tell you the hardest part for me has been the depression. I am now Day 10 with NO drugs. So day 49 total, from day one of weaning until today. I feel good. I feel like I can FINALLY live and it feels so good to not wake up and swallow a fist full of pills.

You are the ONLY one who can do this. If you are not 100% ready for this, then you might as well not even bother starting. Be in a good mind frame. This is NOT going to be easy, this is going to suck actually. But you CAN do it. Every morning when you get out of bed, even on the nights you don't sleep, wake up and say I am 1 day closer to sobriety.

What to expect. Even though you are tampering you still will feel withdrawals. Not sleeping great, antsy, loose stools, and sneezing. Oh I sneeze all the time. Normal.

Email me ANYTIME I am here for you. michelle888_99 @ hotmail . com

With tramadol you have to taper down or else it can cause seizures. So, you have to be very careful. The problem about being a addict is it takes so much willpower to taper off. Can you get in to your doctor so he can work with you on a good taper plan? He can also help by prescribing some things to help. One med that is used often during withdrawals and is called clonodine. It's a blood pressure medication that will help will the elevated heart rate that is associated with withdrawals. It will also help with some of the other symptoms such as the hot/cold flashes and can help with sleep due to insomnia while detoxing.
I would also check in to the amino acid protocol. You can find that in the health pages in the lower right hand side of the screen. It lists a bunch of vitamins and supplements that help get our body and mind back on track a bit faster.I have use it in the past and am using it now and it truly does help. Also be sure to eat healthy, push the good fluids such as juice and water to help flush the system, and exercise. I can't stress exercise enough! I know it may seem impossible to muster up the energy to do so but even a short walk around the block will help.
Also you need to find things to keep your mind occupied. I did a lot of jigsaw puzzles. I never in my life thought I would enjoy putting together a puzzle but it really helps take your mind off of things. If puzzles don't work out for you, try and find a different hobby. Grab a good book, do some scrap booking, get in to photography, watch some funny movies, anything that you enjoy. These things will help pass the time and keep you from constantly looking at the clock.
Also be sure to come on here and read posts, answer other member's posts, and post as often as needed. You will meet some wonderful people on here that have been in your shoes and some that are going through withdrawals as we speak. No no one here will judge. You will make some great friends that will bend over backwards to help you get through this. You will get some great advice and encouragement that helps so much while going through withdrawals.
Everyone is different but the worst of the physical symptoms of withdrawals usually last about a week or so. After that the mental part kicks in. This is where aftercare is so helpful. Most people think that once they make it through the physical they are in the clear. We tend to think we can take another pill just for the day to get that buzz one last time. The problem is that one pill often leads to two. That one day of using often leads to two days. The two days often leads to weeks and before we know it we are right back to where we started. I have seen it so many times on here and I have done it quite a few times myself. If you get the proper aftercare such as NA meetings, maybe a addiction therapist, and sticking around this forum, it really ups our odds of success. Addiction is a lifelong battle and the more resources we use that are out there the better chance we have to never pick up another pill bottle.
Be sure to tell yourself every second of everyday that failure is not a option. It's not a easy ride but not a impossible one either. Many people kick the habit for good everyday. You too can join in on that group if you set your mind to it. You have to want it more than anything. You have to fight with every ounce of energy you have in you. You have to know that it is possible to put the pills down and call it quits for good. We all have it in us. It's buried in everyone. Sometimes we just have to dig deep to find that strength that we don't think we have. You too have that strength. I have no doubt that you will make it. You need to think the same way. Stay positive and stay focused.
So do you have a doctor you can go to for help? If you get your script from your doctor you need to let him know that you no longer want to be dependent on tramadol. Don't be embarrassed for telling him this. He will respect you for wanting to live a clean life. You have to cut off all supplies to the pills so you don't get the urge to get them.
Just stay strong and get your mind set up for success. You can do this! I'm pulling for you. If you need anything, please let me know!
Best of luck to you!

Brian

Tramadol is one of those weird drugs that affects us in a couple of ways. First, it has the same attributes as agonist opiates. Therefore, you'll get the typical opiate withdrawal symptoms. The thing that makes Tramadol problematic is that it has a strong relation to Effexor...so it has antidepressant properties. So, from what I've seen, the best course of action is to make sure your mental health is OK. If you're already depressed, then do this under a doctor's care. The best next step is to taper down. It's really the best way not to be hit with huge withdrawal symptoms. Search for Tramadol on the search engine...there will be lots of info.
